How about this as way to make COC fairer, keep it as it is but also include all the teams that finished in the top two spots in their Elite divisions. This would give you rather than to teams that should win, sixteen teams, all who would have a decent chance. OK there would still be a few we'd be more likely to see raise the trophy but it would become a much more competitive trophy again. If I'm reading the first round correctly they could simply replace some bot teams in the first round that are there to get the number of teams up to 64.
I still think full league level knockout tournaments would be more fun but my main objection to COC as it is, is the fact that it is not a competitive trophy in the sense that we know before the start which two teams are far more likely to win. |

Keep in mind, you would take off all these teams you put into COC for the Friday friendlies. This means a huge downside for newcomers, since they will see less potential partners for generating income.

Ok, just looking at this and I just can't see how 14 teams moving from Friday Friendlies to COC creates 'a huge downside for newcomers' there are 224 (minus teams going bot) in league level 1. So let's say 200 plus a fair number of league level 2 teams with maxed out stadiums. Have I misunderstood what you are saying?  |

if you use 16 teams out of Elite, you would have to use 16 teams of each of the other leagues as well. If not, you would raise the guaranteed income for Elite teams.

16 guarenteed from elite, 16 from league one and 16 from league two, surely. Just that the actual payment / games happen a season later.

48 team, top half of elite, and the bowl teams from the all lower leagues.
16+16+16. If you see what I mean, this season only it would be 16+16+32 as there are currently twice as many level 2 bowl participants but I think you merging the level 2 leagues from each league into 1. |
