Not so much as an uptick, Steve, just more testing has given more positive results mainly in the under 30 age bracket.

I do not know about other European countries, but summarize the situation in France by saying there are more cases because the is more testing is not right.

Of course it contributes greatly, yet others indicators shows that the situation is getting worse than it was in June/July.

The positive test rate increases days after days, the number of people in the hospital is rising again and the number of deaths as well (x3). Right now it is far to be as bad as it was in March/April of course. However some scientists predict that if French people continue to be as careless as they were during summer, we could face a similar situation by Xmas.

I must say I feel very angry toward those people. Many suffered badly from the lockdown (which was necessary to save life). Their current selfish behavior could lead to more deaths and a new lockdown, hurting the economy even more.

The same has happened here too... The town of Bolton had to go back into lockdown because of one group of holidaymakers - they went to Spain, partied for a week, caught the virus, then went on a pub crawl when they returned. Medical authorities were able to trace the massive spike in cases in that town to the exact route of their pub crawl!!

So a bunch of European countries (Spain for example), seem to be having a major uptick in cases, although not in fatalities. What are they saying in Europe about this? Reasons? Causes?

Just curious, because it's a bit different than the states, where different sections of the country seem to peak and trough.

It's a combination of reasons... yes, there is more testing, cases are being diagnosed earlier. Previously most people were only tested when they were already sick - the estimate for people actually infected in March/April are close to 10x the actual number of confirmed positive cases.

But also now those at risk of developing serious complications are better protected through shielding - my mother has not left her house since March. Most of the positive tests are now in the under 30 age bracket, teenagers, students... people who are better physically equipped to deal with the effects.

Add to that the advancements in treatment.. catch the virus earlier, treat it more effectively, much better chance of the patient being ok. For many of those with the virus in March/April they were already sick, and sadly it was too late to save them.

The final reason though is that there is a time lag - the virus takes time to manifest itself. We are seeing deaths rising a little here in the UK due to the increase in infections, though thankfully at nowhere near the rate we saw 6 months ago. Most of those dying now are likely to have been tested positive for the virus 4 to 6 weeks ago, so the current 5k-6k infection rate is likely to cause deaths to climb further in late October/early November.

On a coronavirus/football note, the Tenn. Titans have closed down their football practice facility because of positive Covid test. Wonder what this is going to do for the NFL season.

NBA is in the finals and the bubble seems to have worked out for them.

MLB just starting the playoffs and in transition from play in your own stadium, to playoff bubbles in Texas and SoCal.

NHL just finished the Stanley Cup....

Yeah, but both the Pac-12 and Big Ten which initially canceled their seasons and are now scrambling to savage a season. I think seeing the Big-12/ACC/SEC getting paid made them have second thoughts.

I do not wish him to die from it, but I hope he will have big symptoms so he Understands the decease is no joke. Boris Johnson time in ICU clearly changed his strategy in the good way, in my opinion at least. Hopefully the same will happen in the US.
