Also the cheapness of the props, and the fact that you ended up in the same group as Salt City Pirates!!

Group 3 - BEARS - Named after the Styrian Bears, the joint 3rd most successful team in the history of the game... who combined with Landru Athetics to lock out Elite's AC East for what seemed like a lifetime..

Chelt Nam Bobbers have to be favourites to take this, but it won't be a canter, as this race has some live outsiders..

Werewolves have flirted with Elite a few times, but each time their opponents were armed with silver bullets - they certainly won't be lambs to the slaughter though. (Anyone get the reference?)

Now the other 2 are ones I had to both look up - new teams - but both managers have built very strong rosters in no time at all. That's not surprising with regards to MK Saints, Milton Keynes is shite, nothing else to do there. As for Letaidans, I had to google translate the name and it's something to do with death, so that's marked out the intention of their manager!

This'll be a close group, much closer than I 1st thought. I reckon the 2 more experienced teams will go through, but both MK and Letaidans will push them close.

Group 4 - KNIGHTS

RZA younglings will not be familiar with the team after whom this group is named, as they shone brightly, and then disappeared several years ago - The Carrickfergus Knights - currently the only team from the British Isles to have lifted the Elite crown.

Now I'm going to be bold and say this is the most straightforward group to predict...

The Social Distance Runners are one of the best teams in the game right now, and it will be a massive shock if the boys from Bavaria don't sweep the group.. Buzi keeps tipping me to win games in Elite, I reckon me backing his team here is much more sensible!

Torino Black Cursed Bulls should claim the runners up spot behind the Runners, their current name describes their fortunes on the 5 occasions they've tasted Elite life though. Bretzfeld Bandits should push them close though, but I reckon it'll be Bulls Bashing Bandits.

The Black Panthers will find their prey far too elusive...

Group 5 - SPARTANS - or should I say spartans... Their manager's refusal to use capital letters in their team name always set off my pedantic nerd-rage.. Named after the only team from Sea Devils ever to lift the top trophy. a feat they did twice. The manager favoured the boom and bust approach, but there's no denying it worked for him.

My initial impression was that this was one of the tighter groups, but closer examination has made me change my opinion.

TigerCats are red hot favourites here. They flirted with Elite a few times before settling in, and are now one of Elite's strongest, having clawed their way to a 5-2 record as I write this...

I would have assumed their fellow-felines Leverkusen Leopards would be the ones to push the TigerCats, but it looks like jack6 is having some form of rebuild, with a low team chemistry and bargain basement coaches. This opens the door a little for "We 3 cruel Kings of Stockholm are.." to possibly sneak through, and I'm going to say I think they will...

As for Morgantown, the Mad Dogs will get well and truly catted.

Group 6 - BLITZKRIEG - named after team who need no introduction at all - quite simply they have been a top 3 RZA team since year dot...

BobBoy Magpies will have their beady eyes on the shiny trophy here, but I feel their thieving attempts will be thwarted by the mighty legions of Rome. The Rome Centurions, whose playbook includes 'hurl pilum' and 'draw spatha' among their commonly used tactics, will be looking to subdue the barbarians from Britain, Gaul, and Germania.

It's a brute of a group with 3 Elite teams, and the Gardians (yes Buzi, I assumed Drogon's "U" key was not working as well) are most likely to find themselves the odd ones out.

Wuppertaler Greyhounds are 100-1 outsiders who probably won't even leave the traps...
