An unelected second house is a great idea, it's just implemented badly. Having them unelected means they can focus on long-term real issues, not just things that are currently popular with voters (people are generally stupid, and don't know what they want/what's best at a national scale.) This means there's some long-term sensible thinking beyond the day-to-day pandering that comes from elected officials who are generally worried about 'what can I do to look good at the next election'

But how is the handling if one member lost the trust / did something bad / and so on? If there is no election, how can the voters kick someone out of this chamber? If they cannot, does this qualify to be a democratic thing at all?
