I'm just curious to get other manager's takes on this. How much better does a player need to be than others at that position in order to warrant using the 1st string option? With not having a clear idea how big a difference exhaustion makes on the game, (especially with 30+yos,) what's your thoughts on how big a drop in talent from your first stringer to your second guy up makes up for this unknown difference?

I ran some scrimmages and confirmed that using the 1st string option generally gives better outcomes, but the whole when to use it bit seems kinda like a go-by-feel thing.

In the O- and the D-Line we do have a pretty steep drop off behind the starters, so I check the boxes to make sure we have the best possible line-up starting in the trenches as long as possible.

At WR/LB/CB positioning comes into play as I use the boxes to make sure the match-ups are set right (so e. g. the strongest CB is alligned left or right depending on the opponents players).

One thought.

If you have entered all your 'good' players and that comes to 53 to give an example, and you know that the game engine will add another 2 (assuming that you have them) and use them wherever it fancies, in or out of position, what do you do?

One thought is that if you have 2 FB who are good and 2 who are not (you are training them up perhaps) then you could make the 2 good ones starters but pick all 4 and the last two are very unlikely to see the field; however, if they do then at least they are FB and not P or something playing out of position.

I always use the check box Olband, for every position, except if i'm playing low rated teams.

There are 2 things here to know.
1. The obvious, if you have balanced snaps for offense and defense (say 55-65) in a game, everything is good and the players energy is still ok during the game, but if it's unbalanced say (85-55) the players on offense or defense with that many snaps lose more energy and start playing worse during the game.

2. The switch, (as example) if you check 2 WR you will see WR1 playing on the left side for most of the 1st quarter plays and then WR2 will be on the left side depending on how much plays you run in a drive and how much you set your energy in the game settings. And this happens for every position where you have 2 players, like OT, OG, DT, etc. Also i noticed that it depends on the age of the players to sometimes and that is normal. A 25 years old loses faster enery than a 23 years old.
