Here is the math for calculating the training progress:
25 up to 40 points as base
adding the teamwork value as it is (teamwork 25 means add 25 points)
divide it by the percentage given for skill training and fitness training
adding coachlevel multiplied by 2 to each of both values
divide this result by 2
add bonus based on facilities, 10% for each active facility
100 training points = 1 full skill point

(rand(25,40) + Teamwork + (Coach level * 2))/2 * facility bonus 1 * facility bonus 2

Skill progress is Training points / 100

I have no idea what this says.... can someone break this down in non-technical terms..

and how does percentage of training effect a players overall training?

Let's say you train your QB at passing (70%) and Strength (30%). His passing note is 13.4 before the training u p d a t e and Strength is 30.5.

His training progress during the u p d a t e is calculated that way :
1 - There is a random value attributed to the player (between 25 and 40 points). Here you're in lucky day so he got a 35!
2 - You add the teamwork rating of you player. Your QB has a Teamwork of 40. - - -> So 35+40=75
3 - You split this point between your training programs. Here 50% percent for passing and 50% for strength - - - - > So your passing points are equal to : 75*70%=52.5 and your strength points are equal to 75*30%=22.5.
4 - You add you coach level multiplied by 2. You have a 10 Offense Coach and a 20 Physical Coach - - - - -> Pass Training: 52.5+10*2=72.5 ; Strength Training: 22.5+20*2=62.5
5 - You Divide each total by 2 - - - - -> Pass: 72.5/2=36.25 ; Strength: 62.5/2=31.25
6 - You add facilities Bonuses (10% each). In this example you have only activated the wind tunnel (strength bonus)- - - - > No passing bonus ; Strength: 31.25*1.10=34.375
7 - 1 Skill point equals 100 Training Points - - - - > Pass:: 36.25/100=0.3625 ; Strength: 34.375/100=0.34375

So your skills after the training u p d a t e are in this example for you QB :
Passing - - - - > 13.4+0.3625=13.76
Strength - - - - > 30.5+0.34375=30.84

Hope it's clear for you now...
