I'll try to explain some basics of the playbook and game settings through some game analysis in order to help newbie understand some reasons of avoidable failures...

Hope some experienced managers will join me on this!

LESSON 1 - 4th Down Order - Field Goal Attempt

New York Bulldogs @ Canopi Miners

This game was a Wild Card Playoff of season one... Two close teams for a very close game... But the Bulldogs won only because of a bad playbook on Field Goals from the Miners. Here are the explanation :

Game Result : New York Bulldogs 10 / Canopi Miner 7 (3 points game)

- 1st example :
10:35 3 and 10 to go on opp 22, Lodovico Portaluppi (OC) snaps the ball to Celino Varone (QB), Umfredo Parmiggiano (HB/L) gets the ball, he starts running over the left tackle, Umfredo Parmiggiano (HB/L) tackled by Vincent Texier (MLB), forward progress: 8 yards (Wishbone vs. 4-4-3)
10:04 Paride Luttazzi (P) punts the ball from opp 14 for 31, this is a touchback
- - > The Miners punted the Ball instead of a 31 Yards Field Goal attempt : 3 points loss

-2nd Example
2:17 3 and 3 to go on opp 10, Angelico Braschi (OC) snaps the ball to Celino Varone (QB), hands off to Ermanno Galdini (HB/R), he starts running over the right end, Tom Berard (DE/L) brings Ermanno Galdini (HB/R) down, nice tackle, forward progress: tackle for loss of 1 yards (Wishbone vs. 5-3-3)
1:47 Paride Luttazzi (P) punts the ball from opp 11 for 28, this is a touchback
- - > The Miners punted the Ball instead of a 28 Yards Field Goal attempt: 3 points loss

Conclusion :
Even with a bad kicker, an almost 30 yards FG is 7 out of 10 a hit... So the Miners let 6 points on the road in the last quarter and were out by 3 at the end... Just a Playbook issue
On 4th Down, when you are less than 25-30 yards from the Goal Line, Try a Field Goal!!! It would save you some big disappointments.
Moreover, a Punt from the End Zone is pretty silly becauseyou'll always do a Touchback ans so the other team will begin on his own 20... So if you don't want to try a FG in the end zone, go for the 4th Down, never use Punt in the opposite 20!!!

More to come...
