Unless your playbook covers every possible situation (down and distance and quarter), the game engine will look at your Game Orders page.

That's probably okay, as it keeps your team from being too predictable.

Without looking at your playbook it's hard to answer specifics....

Look at your game's play-by-play. Note a play that it ran that you didn't call. Then enter the quarter, down, distance, time remaining, distance to goalline into the top of your playbook and see if you had an order set for that situation.

If you did and the play did not run, you may have a bug. Odds are it was a situation for which you did not give an order in your playbook.

One approach that worked for me is to only add one or two plays to the Playbook at a time.

I'll think of something and add it, then read the next game report to see if it worked.

To avoid this situation, I have rows with many "any" in the bottom of playbook.

Can anyone give some basic advice on building a playbook? I feel somewhat clueless. I like the idea of just adding a few plays at a time (earlier in this list of posts), but I was wondering if there is any more structural advice than that (e.g. maybe start with looking at play calling inside the opponent's 20 or some such).

First, donwload the basic playbook from the manual to understand how it works... Then keep it simple to avoid big mistakes in it at the begining and when you'll feel more comfortable with it, you could enhance it...

Thanks for the link. I found it straightfoward to upload the basic playbooks, so that was good. It's the notion of building something new on top of that which has got me wondering - how and where to start.

Try to go logic and don't forget the playbook rules order... For example go on 4th and 1 (which is in Standard Playbook) is a pretty bad call if you're on your own 10... And you can call some plays based on the score or the distance from the goal line after that. Because at the beginning, it's hard to find an effective playbook. You have to try some stuffs and see if it works out. In games, you input your game settings for each down. The playbook is here after that (in my opinion) to enhance some specific plays...
