But maybe it doesn't have to be so complicated
Average of the last 3-5 ratings, difference between the averages, a factor that makes sense (just something that gets us a margin of 2-21 points in the most cases) and round it to .0 or .5 Since it is just a fun thing and nobody will lose or win money, we don't need rocket science... But maybe it's a little math-thingy and guys who communicate in formulas always need rocket science... |

if it involves as much work as people are saying then I'll vote against it for the time being. the idea is a fine one but given what other areas we need to tweak I wouldnt want any of our resources used on something really non-essential.
I mean if its strickly presentation were talking about (add-ons that have no value in gameplay) there are areas of other more realistic improvements that dont involve members obtaining advanced statistics degrees. |

To be honest, I think the math behind those things can be very easy up to very complex. So it depends on the level of "accuracy" the community wants and is willing to accept and what Peter would be willing to accept. Example: My next supercup matchup is against Majalorca Pigs. A very easy spread could be calculated by saying his overall rating (45,8%) - my overall rating (43,5%) = 2,3% spread formular for every 0,5% diff => 1 Point rounded up => 2,3% / 0,5% rounded to 5 => +5 Point Favorit. Very simple. But you could also do: check very opponent of his team, of my team, rate that, compare that, bring in average points gained, average yards gained and so on until it all is calculated into a number. Or you could so: run the game 1000 times, take the average scores together => spread. Last edited on 2012-01-30 17:52:25 by jack6 |

Yeah, something like the first suggestion might work. jack6 wrote:

Better would be some kind of calculator, where you can import teams stats (manually or through some "button") and run it without involving servers at all. Which is not necessary job for Pete and it can be done by anyone. Small improvement for the calculator would be when it calculates a difference also in the way rush offense vs rush defense = x% points and so on... |

Such a formula would certainly be a fun thing to have. But shared in the forums for anyone who wants to play around with the numbers, and not having it on the games page, or individual matches page. It's misleading, and completely unnecesarry to have it there imo.
