I double checked to the manual to see if this was in there or not.

But what do you guys think of a Transfer Ban (player cant be put on TM)or some sort of high tax penalty if a manager buys a player on the Transfer market and puts him back on the TM in a very short period of time?

I think this is a overall good idea. But I think it should only be in effect for 4 to 6 final updates and no penalty if you just fire the guy

It would be very difficult to achieve. Over at -TOG-they use a sliding tax scale .... if you sell a player you've owned for less than 1 week you pay maximum tax (23%), the tax rate drops by 1% per week until you get to the minimum rate 3% tax for players that you've owned for 20 weeks or more.

However, it doesn't stop some Managers from buying & selling like they're on Ebay ! ... the team currently with the third highest wage bill in the game always seems to have half his roster for sale and he's bidding on truckloads of players at the same time.
Even managers with a youth pull superstar tend to sell immediately and take the tax hit rather than wait 20 weeks to minimize the tax.
My observations are that a punitive tax rate for player sales doesn't seem to affect the transfer market much, if at all ........

I hear ya... a manager's gonna do what a manager's gonna do. but something just doesnt sit right with me in terms of short selling (especially if you profit from it). Thats why I brought to everyone to see if they had a problem with it as well and if so what there suggestions were in combating it.

I played in a PBM once (very sadly defunct), where to stop short selling, there was a League rule that a player could only play for a maximum of 2 teams per season - i.e he could only be transferred once....... not a suggestion, just an observation

In the NBA they deal with guaranteed contracts so when a player is released that team is still obligated to pay the players salary (unless they reach a buyout agreement). In the case of trades the salaries have to match.

One thing I have seen done though (but im not exactly sure the details of it) is a team will release a player and another team will pick him up but the team that released him has to pay a particular portion of that players salary. Example, if a player is owed 20mil throughout the rest of his contract the selling team would pay 25%. So the seller would pay to the player 5mil of the contract.

I could see something like this working to deter managers from short selling (atleast on large scale) especially on franchise type players. Basically if you sell a player before a set period of time your obligated to pay a percentage of that players total contract. If the next manager short sells that player in turn then the previous owners obligation is void and the current seller takes the penalty.

I know that contracts in the current system arent static between teams so this is a very rough idea but in general what do you all think of that wrinkle?

I think its entirely up to the manager what he does with the player he owns . If you`re a new team and can`t afford a top scout sometimes the player stats are deceiving when moving from TM to roster . Rookie managers maybe need to shuffle a few players around and tend to be quite busy early doors .

thats a fair point. But the way I see it new managers really shouldnt be involved in high end trading and this is really designed so that "franchise" guys arent just bought and sold around like some sort of asset piece.

That I'm aware of most sports have some sort of check against buying high salary players and then releasing them before a set date.
