I've noticed that after a missed field goal there is a discrepancy between where the line of scrimmage is for the field goal and where the team who takes over starts out.

Examples:

9:16 3 and 10 to go on opp 29, Krzysztof Wierzbicki (OC) snaps the ball to Ernard Grey (QB), hands off to Jacobus De Vries (HB/L), he starts running over the left end, Fred Williamson (DE/R) breaks through, Jacobus De Vries (HB/L) tackled by Kendrick Jameson (DE/L), forward progress: 1 yards (Pro set vs. 4-3-4)
8:42 Corey Nielson (K) kicks the ball for the Fieldgoal, 45 yard Fieldgoal missed
8:42 1 and 10 to go on own 35, Justin Keel (OC) snaps the ball to Dalton Lister (QB), hands off to Lonnie Gustafson (HB/L), he starts running over the left tackle, Hendrik Will (DE/R) breaks through, Louis Van Leeuwen (DE/L) brings Lonnie Gustafson (HB/L) down, nice tackle, forward progress: 1 yards (Pro set vs. 5-3-3)

3 and 10 on the opponent 29, progress of 1 yard should put the line of scrimmage at 28 of the opponent.

Missed field goal.

Then the team (me) takes over at my own 35. It seems like it is 7 yards each time.

Does this happen in the NFL too? I wasn't aware of the line of scrimmage changing after a missed field goal.

The change of possession takes place from where the ball was kicked.

In the NFL the rule is that the offence always start at the point of the kicking spot, not at the LOS. In Germany they start at the LOS, but not in the NFL.

i checked my last game and this is what happened when my kicker missed;

0:08 Long Dupuis (K) kicks the ball for the Fieldgoal, 34 yard Fieldgoal missed

0:08 1 and 10 to go on own 24, Luís Aboim (OC) snaps the ball to Frederico Eça (QB), who hands off to Gabriel Gois (HB/C), this seems to be a run over the left guard, Gilberto Phelps (DE/R) breaks through, Gabriel Gois (HB/C) tackled by Agustin Horn (NT), forward progress: 1 yards (I-formation vs. 3-4-4)

I looked up the rules at NFL.com and it says:

Digest of Rules Main
Field Goal
All field goals attempted (kicker) and missed from beyond the 20-yard line will result in the defensive team taking possession of the ball at the spot of the kick. On any field goal attempted and missed where the spot of the kick is on or inside the 20-yard line, ball will revert to defensive team at the 20-yard line.

I haven't checked to see if it is set up to have missed field goals inside the 20 start at the 20.

Didn't know about the spot of the kick being the difference. Learned something new today.
