Could somebody please explain 'player rating' to me in simple, straightforward, plain english ?

before you ask, yes I have read the manual ......... but the more I see the 'rating' on a player, the less I seem to get it.

To explain what I'm thinking, I've listed a couple of examples ....

(a) a guy in the draft, listed as WR for natural position, has a rating of 2.5* for WR, but also has a rating of 2.5* for 8 other positions ... but why ???? !! .
just picking one of those positions, LB ....... he has tackling=9.2, vision=15.7 .... all the other LB's in the draft have MUCH higher stats than that, but he has a rating of 2.5* for LB and 2.5* for WR even though he's clearly a much better WR than a LB (or any other position), so ...WHY ???!!

(b) this has already been mentioned, but it appears that EVERY player in RZA is a good CornerBack ! the ratings for cornerback (often Safety too) seem to be artificially high.

just another quick question ..... is there any concept of BPOS here (like in -TOG-, e.g. if I had a guy whose attributes were totally unsuitable for QB, but I persisted in playing him as a QB, would his rating at QB improve ?

It's interesting for me too. Here is my thoughts:
(a) This WR has good speed, agility, positioning for sure therefore he can be normal offensive player (except OL), same for defense (except DL) and ST (G, KR)

(b) For CB rating only speed, tackling and some vision really matter IMO

About your last question - No, AFAIK

Very simple: all skills a specific position could use/needs get calculated, and based on the possible minimum and maximum there is the rating...

Example:

Lets say a position needs kicking, speed and agility, and kicking and speed are twice as important as agility

rating = (speed + speed + kicking + kicking + agility) / 5
if "rating" is 50, he gets 5 stars, if the result of the calculation is 25, he gets 2.5 stars...

clear?

crystal clear

but ... in the manual (I think) it mentioned that experience was also included in the rating ? if so, is that just experience in general, or specific experience (e.g. played as WR 100 games, only played as TE 15 games) ??

Experience is a factor after this "averages" calculation...
