"Good thing comes to those who wait."
I like the idea of a rivalry-button with the clashing helmets. Clicking it will add the team to your rivals list, and will notify the other team of him being set as a rival of your team. If he feels the same way, then he can add you as well. What I want to say with this is, there can be cases where I think of a team as my rival, but he doesn't feel the same way about me....then why should there be only rivalries where both teams feel the same way? A little icon in the Games menu suggesting the upcoming match will be a rivalry match would be cool too. Also I think such a rivalry match could mean an automatic use of more energy. So a new option, something inbetween normal and MOTY play. This would also prevent the spamming of rivalries. |

I would never introduce it if such "bragger stuff" affects the gameplay itself - sorry
And I think, rivalries should be agreed by both managers before they are shown to the public. |

I can live with the second part. But why shouldn't it affect gameplay? The opponent is a rival of my team. My players want to beat the hell out of them so badly maybe even they don't notice they're doing things a little more excessive. Also, this was just an idea... |

It would give a bonus to those who enable rivalries...and my plan is to bind the number of usable rivalries to supporter/non-supporter (sorry for being greedy)...and this would result in a benefit for supporters, which I would NEVER EVER introduce.

By the way, a rivalry should not be based on an even result after several games.
Look at some of the best rivalries in college sports, there are some with high differences between won and lost games. |

I'm reading this thread... and i'm seeing very little I agree with in total.
I think the main thing I'm not feeling is this aspect where an individual manager can "pick" his rivals (and the part about it being based on friendslist... my god pete!). In what.. forget sports for a second.. ANYTHING are rivals picked based solely on a person or group of people just because? Rivals are formed by many different variations but they all have one thing in common. History. First off the two sides have to have many battles amongst each other.. This means that the rivals will more often than not come from not only within your teams League.. not only within your teams conference.. but primarily within your division. You cant have a rivalry (atleast within the definition of the word... if you want to change what rivalry means for the nature of this game.. then thats another matter) with another team just because you happen to have two good games with them in successive years in the supercup or CoC. A good example would be the games between me and Laudis... We're both in the same division... each game has not been decided by more than 7pts (although hes winning 3-1 all time).. we've met in the playoffs. I would consider this to be a rivalry and i'm sure he would as well. Now I know thats pretty tough to create organically in a little time but i would assume as the game grows and teams really start to develope almost every one would have some sort of division foe with a similar stat line. i really think rivalries should be more cosmetic than anything explicit on the field. if you want to separate the supporters from the non-supporters you could make it so that Supporters get more money from rivalry games (ie. more merchandise sales.. high ticket prices etc.) as opposed to them being being able to have more rivalries (which isnt realistic). |

Still there is something called "invention of tradition"... Look at college football and all those division changing. Suddenly there are new rivalries and in the most cases they go somehow back to 1775 and the declaration of independence. So I think it's okay when there are two managers who think they should be rivals, then they could be rivals.
