(1) How do you sucessfully run the ball , i.e. what do you think are the important aspects to a great running game ..... quality RB's/FB's ? , a good O-Line, using run-friendly formations ?
and, of course, ......... (2) How do you stop the run ....... a bruising D-Line/LB's ? high numbers of players in the box ? v.interested to hear your opinions |

(1) Good RBs and FBs a must. Good OL, A mix of running plays (don't overlook the FB is passing formations...can be very effective).
(2) DL first. LB 2nd. I haven't really decided on a run-stop formation. 4-4-3 and 5-3-3 seem to allow more long runs ("no Safety....etc"). If you have stronger DL: 4-3-4, Stronger LB: 3-4-4. Mix them up a bit. |

(2) Something i don´t understand is why if i play with 8 man in the box there are more long runs i hope this changes with higher skilled players ...

My DL's are poor, so I use 5 of them. Behind, I have relatively good LB's.
They seem to stop long runs. Later I may change to 4-3-4 to have SS. |

I think the chance of long runs is greater because if you have 8 men in the box, you have a better chance of shutting down the run play completely, but if the RB gets past the DLs and LBs, then there are fewer people in the secondary to tackle him. Steve SD Blitz Agree. This is what I think, too, based on what I see in my games. |
