If someone keeps rushing from pass formations in a specific down, would it work best if you set the playbook to prefer rush and also something like 5-3-3?
In the defense example playbook the rush defense formation i had for a specific rush from shotgun is 4-3-4, but if i'm sure a rush will come in that down, would it be best to try something like 5-3-3?

Yes. Although, I'm not a big fan of the 5-3-3 because it seems the missing safety gives up some long runs (and I don't have the DL for it, imo). 4-3-4 or 3-4-4 might suit your personnel better, and prevent some long runs. Inside the 20 yard line, I don't worry as much about giving up long runs.

Also - if he mixes runs and passes from the same formation, an extreme rushing formation like 5-3-3 may give his passing game some big plays.

Same answer. If you are sure he'll run on that down and distance, and you have the personnel, then go ahead!

Good luck!

Thanks! i think i'll try 4-4-3 since i have better LBs than dls or safeties.

You can also try one formation in 1st half, and another in 2nd half to experiment.

Friendlies are a good time to figure things out.

As Huck Hound said...no real answer to this. Really does depend on personel and choice
5-3-3 you take the chance that your front line can limit more runs but are open to long runs with no SS
3-4-4 for example you cut down long runs but can also give up longer short runs so its harder to stop a new first down.

Consider 4-4-3 near the goal line (a long run from your 7 yard line is max 7 yards, so 5-3-3- or 4-4-3 don't involve SF often), or on 3rd and short.

3-4-4 might be an option to consider when you are nearer midfield and big plays can hurt you. It also rests your NT/DT, which is nice if they are not a strong group.

imo, how you set your Depth Chart is as about important as your defensive playbook.

Well, i think i'll be conservative and stick to 4-3-4 before the 20 yard line except in 3 and 2 where it could be 4-4-3. And inside the 20 yard line against Shotgun 2wr it can be 4-4-3 as well instead of 5-2 which relies on the shitty dl.
