I think it has already be asked, but what formation are run with the special teams unit ? I mean, what positions are on the field during punts/FG ? (my question is mostly about FG, btw)

There's no detail in the "formation" page of the manual

A FG has two options :
field goal is good or missed.

Then, we only need a K and the ball.

So, if I understand this correctly, no O or D formation is called and the only test is whether or not the ball goes trough the goal posts ?
Which means the only factors are the kicker's skills and the distance to the posts ?

Whether you have a ST coach or not is also a factor but other than that you're right

Don't you have Special teams formations for either blocking or tackling and kick return players? there is not only the kicker on the field, there is a long snapper, a holder and blockers/tacklers on each side.

Oh right, I forgot about the coach, thanks for the confirmation
Too bad that those suprises and trick plays prone actions are reduced to a simple good/no good test, though :/

Checking my thinking here:

3-4-4 der del nt mlb mlb1 olbr olbl cbr cbl ssl fsr

so SS gets filled in before FS correct?

ie if player 1 is both no 1 SS and no 1 FS he will be on SS.

Currently, my K is injured player but on my full 55-man depth chart (been playing a few bots, so I haven't bothered with updating it.) I noticed that a player not on my 55-man DC has been filling in for him. Is this because an injured player is taken off the DC by the engine even if I have left him in?

Yes the engine does not allow injured players to play in games when on your DC.
