I really do think that some major incentives are needed to encourage teams to want to promote to 1.1 and to stay in 1.1, if not you'll get more and more of the type of thinking that is starting to enter my head (below), I can't see any reason why this type of 'strategy' wouldn't work .....

I've been looking for 1 or 2 good defensive players now for ages, but I can't get anywhere near ... the last Draftee LB sold for $126 million, another draftee sold for $150 Million and Dark-wing took a CB draftee for $113 Million.

I've been toying with a radical plan for improving my team ...the best way of getting good draftees ...is by picking from a high position on the draft board ....therefore I could relegate to 2.1/2.2 ....win my SuperCup games, lose my league games and stay in 2.1/2.2 for 3 or 4 seasons whilst hoovering up the best draft players by picking from a good spot on the draft board.

And then in 4/5 seasons, bring my all-powerful team full of carefully chosen draftees up to 1.1 ....ready to slay the 1.1 Dragons !

I like the spirit of the idea SH but the problem is we are trying to fix an issue by means which I dont feel are compatible with what we are trying to do.

I cant think of any logical way for us to create incentives for being in 1.1 w/o hurting teams that stay in 2.1. In r/l it works pretty much like most of these suggestions are.. but we cant afford to have those sorts of haves/have nots. The way I see it... as the game fills out with managers the 1.1 will be more of a prestige badge instead of honor. I think the "incentives" should probably come from sort of front page history of every club (like the trophy cabinet idea) detailing how your club faired in each season by win/loss record.. promotion/relegation.. and other things that a visiting manager can look on your home page and tell about the team's history.

Its not much... but such a permanent marking on how a team is progressing/regressing should mean something to the pride of a manager.

Actually, the more I thought about this, the worse this idea seems! It would actually take incentive away from 2.1 and 2.2 teams who win their league. ("Bad dog! Bad!!")

Different idea, although a bit Draconian

When a team demotes from 1.1 :

- one random offensive AC quits (takes a college HC offer )
- one random defensive/special team AC quits (ditto)
- all retirement-aged Coaches and Players get checked twice for retirement (with a virtual +1 to their actual age) Retirement is still at the end of the following season, same as always
- PR staff do not negotiate any sponsor bonuses for the following season
