Hey guys,
Am over in Vegas early June and looking to hire out a car whilst over there - take a couple of days out to get out and see some 'real' America - well, what i perceive to be real America anyway! My problem is that ive never driven overseas before and im kinda eager to avoid causing a mass pileup....any tips, guides or sites i can use to give me some pointers on the main difference whilst im driving on the wrong side of the road? |

Always watch the other guy, follow the speed limit, or if your on the freeway follow the speed of the other cars.
and watch your spacing, some of us seem to stop for no freakin reason at times. |

Thanks.
Is there something that says that even though the lights are on red, you are still allowed to turn right or something? Im sure i mentioned this to a taxi driver last year who proceeded thru a red light...over here a red light is stop! |

A) most taxi drivers are crazy drivers LOL
b) it depends on which state you are in some have the right turn on red and some dont. if in doubt either look for a sign near the light itself or on the light poles. Or wait for green. |

When I visited England and Ireland, I loved driving on the "wrong" side of the road, legally.
Just follow what Phareux has said and you'll be fine. Good luck! |

I know it sounds silly but two hands on the wheel.
I came over fro Aust and drove just with my right hand and I kept creeping over to the right side of the lane, towards parked cars etc. two hands tends to balance out the effect |

Mustang Convertible Shouldn't have the same problem I had, when I rent a Jeep/Pickup. But anyway: The american cars I drove, tended to need a looooong way to stop when hitting the brakes. Needless to say that those cars mentioned above are much bigger than what we're used to drive over here. So I would say get used to the type of car you're driving.
Oh: And don't follow the navigation system blindly... Drove into a oneway in L.A. (cause it said so) and of course the cops were there But they are much better than their image. Those two were at least. |

Its Vegas!! aint hiring out a Ford KA or the like...drive a Merc over here in the UK, but they seem to be the only convertible readily available!
thanks for the tip about the brakes though - i guess i kinda have to rely on the Sat Nav....its gonna have a damn better idea of where to go than i will!! As long as it doesnt mess me about if im anywhere close to the Grand Canyon...that could be awkward... |

You won't need the Nav in Vegas. It's the strip and that's it. Impossible to get lost there (in the streets that is).
