If I see that right, it is best to train to x.9 with yellow and then do a lost 90% traininig to go over the cap as far as possible.

I don't understand your comment/logic (no offence intended !).
No matter how close you train to the cap, the cap won't move.
You can go slightly above the cap (see quote from manual below), but if I remember correctly, somebody did some experiments on the test server (it might have been you Jack !) and the experiments suggested that to increase a capped skill even very slightly took a large number of training cycles (i.e. 'wasted training cycles' in many ways).

Manual - "Players have capped abilities on speed, strength and agility. If they hit the cap already, the training will be slowed down. The player can make progress, but it will be really, really hard for him. "

Yea, I did the testing regarding training further the red !.
And it did not progress very fast.

What I was talking about in the statemant above is following.
(I saw a spelling error in my statemant, see bold)

Peter said, that the cap is at x.0. So assume the cap hits 40.0 as red !.
With a scout level 20 you get a yellow ! if the skill jumps 35.0+

I understood Peter that way, that as long as you did not hit the red ! barrier, you train normal, if you hit it, you train very slow.
So I think what happens is: (I'm staying with my example).
You train the skill further and hit 35.5 with a regular progress of 0.5 on each traininig.
If you do 1 more training, you hit 40.0 and get a red !.
But if you train the skill with 10% and slowly aproach 39.9 it is still a yellow !.
NOW do a LAST 90% training (with 0.5 progress) and get 44.4 and a red !
You get 0.4 MORE skill than in the first aproach.

In reality the values will be between 40.0 and 40.something, depended on the max training progress.

But it looks like we can maximize at least the capping.
