When I look at my Team Stats for the year, my combine FB blocking is 15 good blocks, 0 missed, 0 pancakes on ~500+ pass attempts. This compared to the the thousands of blocks, missed and pancakes of O-linemen.

To me it seems like FB blocking is almost a non-factor and you should focus mostly on running skills for your FB. What do you guys think?

Hi Steve,

I tried to find the post where this was discussed previously. I said exactly the same thing as you, i.e. my FB combine for 20sth blocks, but over 1000 yards rushing.

The best example how little blocking matters (in a FB) must be Adolf Stormo, the Turtles' "Fuehrer".

His season stats are 1770 runs for 5159 yards, and only 33 blocks.

My FB (blocking 23,3) has plays 1308, good 520, missed 211, pancakes 331 and 587 yards. This is good.
Four players (FB, RB) have no blocks. It is strange

Maybe you ordered him to play OL too as he's pretty good blocker?
In my team one FB has 56 blocks and 31 pancakes, but I remember I ordered him to play OL couple of times. None other is above 20 blocks. But draftee FB who couldn't catch up on carrying with older FBs is carrying on level with them so it's really strange.

That would be my guess too. I don't know, if you pass every down, maybe you can get more blocks??

I don't pass every down, but I would consider my team as one of the more pass happy ones. Therefore I can triple your stats, presenting my two FBs with 93 and 89 blocks. Again all of them are good... And again it's nothing compared to the OL.

Also, I see plenty of games with plenty of sacks but the FB (or RB) has still never missed a block.

How does that work? Does the game simply not record this or does this mean the FB wasn't in position to make the block at all?

There is no missed block by the TE or FB. they only reduce the speed of the blitzing DE/LB/SF.

you can´t compare the blocks of the OL with blocks of FB and TE (at the moment)

So a stronger FB with better blocking slows DL and LBs down better?

It is like everything in this game. Blocking is only one skill/factor of the big puzzle.

look at the manual -> glossary

blocking is the technique skill. so better in blocking he knows how he have to block. but that doesn´t say if he is in the right position to block, if he is strong, fast or agil enough to block or if he didn´t see (vision) the blitzing guy early enough.

It is allways an interaction of different skills.
