There's a problem I'm trying to solve, and figured I'd ask here since others could be having the same dilemma too.

So there's a lot of good QBs on this season's draft board and I wouldn't mind getting one for my team, but I rate 14 other players higher then 6 QBs who aren't too shabby. Obviously my main goal with this post is to get only one QB if the previous 14 guys get picked by other teams.

I know the trick to getting only 1 QB is to make them "round 1" and sort them to the end of th draft board. But this way a QB will be picked sooner than the first 14 guys on the board, since the engine looks for "round 1" first, makes the pick, then moves over to the rest. After that the QBs become any rounds like the rest of the board but they'll be at the end of it so no problem there. Still this doesn't work for me.

If I do the same with the first 14 guys plus the 6 QBs and make them "round 1", put them at the end of the board I could miss out on the guys that by some miracle don't get picked in the first round, and could be grabbed in the second. But since they're at the end of my board I don't see this happening.

Then if I make the first 14 guys "round 1" leave them at the top, and put the QBs as "round 1" to the bottom then if all the 14 guys go to other teams I can get a QB, but if I pick from my first 14 choices then the QBs get left at the end of the board, so that's a no go too.

What I want to do is make these 20 players something like "round 1 then round 2" but I guess that's not possible. At least not that I know of, not the simple way.

Any ideas?

Yes.

Why don't you put all QBs to the bottom of the draft board and list them as "round 2"?

Then you will surely get one of the top 14 players in "round one", and the engine will check if there is any QBs left for "round 2".

At least that's how I would do it.

I thought about that too, but if the top 14 get picked by other teams, then the QBs stay at the end of the board and there's no chance of me picking them in round 1, only in round 2, right?

I'm trying to be really careful about this since being in the divisional playoffs I'll be picking pretty late...

Meh, I don't think that all your wishes can be fulfilled with the current draft board setup. If I were you, I'd just put the top 14 first and the 6 QB after them, the worst case scenario is you get 2 QBs - if the 14 are gone in the first round and you pick a QB in 1st and 2nd round, but I guess that's the lesser evil?

How about if you put the top 14 at the top and the 6 QB next, with the mark "2nd round" and top 14 are picked when you get to draft, does in this case the engine neglect the QBs in the 1st round or does it read them as "any"? This is more of a question for Pete/Preachie

I think a "round 2" is looked at as "any" in the first round. Only in the second round will they be considered as first possible picks.

Pete? preachie? Is it even possible to somehow sort the board the way I want to or are we just brainstorming here for nothing?

Round two means round two, not "one and two"!

From a first read your situation is to complicating for the draft board...

So let's split draft into days!

I would do than AND mark the QBs as round 1.

The engine will try to pick one of those in round one.
If taken, it will start selecting from the top.
If not taken, you get the QB and if you are lucky, some of you 14 higher sorted players are still available.
If not, you might get another QB.

You can only avoid that by putting the QBs on the bottom.

Nah, I don't want to pick a QB ahead of the first 14 players by marking them round 1, since a QB will have the least impact on my team compared to those positions.

Guess I'll figure something out...maybe put the 14 guys and the 3 top QBs at the top marked round 1, and the other 3 QBs to the bottom marked round 1 as well to avoid picking two QBs or whatever.

Still, any advice is welcome!

Edit: typo

My advice, don't make it too complicated. There are a few reasons I wouldn't stress about it.

1. The draft is unpredictable with bot picks, managers who don't order the draft boards, and how managers value players differently. Many, if not most people get at least 1 of the top 5 on their overall board regardless of pick number.

2. At least for now, double up on players isn't necessarily a bad thing. Worst case scenario is you sell a current player that is replaced or sell a draft pick for $$$$. Which leads to reason 3.

3. Chances are there will be draft players available on the TM, so if you don't get what you want you can shop there. IF you sell a draft player yourself it is almost like a trade.

There are just too many factors outside your control to micromanage the draft. I highly advise you to tier your players in groups and leave it at that. Perhaps s e l e c t the top 4 or 5 qb's you like and spread them out through the top 15 picks. There is a little bit of luck in the draft.
