Mentioned it in another thread but think I'll put in a proper suggestion. Firstly in my opinion, there are 2 critical mistakes an online game can make that are game killers pure and simple.

1. Pay for Points (ie ingame advantages)
2. Reward people for carrying out tedious tasks

First one is self-explanatory. Second one should be as well - you've a limited time on this planet and you shouldn't waste it on clicking on player after player for 70 players to renegotiate wages. Quite simply if something isn't fun and enjoyable to do then it should not under any circumstances be in the game.

Can see that having franchise players is part of the strategy so why not automate contracts so that when they run out they automatically renew but allow teams to negotiate the franchise contracts as you do now.

Keep the strategy - lose the tedium

I'd actually put this and the scouting (batch scouting) above pretty much everything else including the ME for the simple reason that you can forgive a dodgy engine if the general game is fun to play. On the other hand, it doesn't matter how good the ME is when you are clicking on player after player after player - its kinda hard to escape the feeling of 'why am I wasting my life doing this'.

I agree with your reasons for why a game might not be successful. I do disagree with the HR being tedious and time consuming.

It takes perhaps 30 minutes total to go through your roster the first time using HR. After that it is about 20 minutes a season, maybe, after the season roll over. It really isn't that much time..

If you don't want to negotiate contracts then don't switch to HR mode.
If you stay in 'wage mode' then everything is 'automated' .
Seems to me as though you want an 'autopilot' .... but there should always be a reward for managers who are prepared to put some effort in and try to achieve more than the autopilot.

a big from me.

I'd also like to add.... I'll be damned if my "automated" HR decides to go gangbusters with my dough like I'm Dan Snyder.

Like SF said we're in agreement on the cutting of the fatty parts... but this is rather critical.

People should get rewarded in the gameand in spending time on the game you'll read, learn and earn eventually.
Getting some reward out of mindless clicking specific pages, changing around stuff etc for exra "points" is plain bullshit. But taking the time to get you're finances straigth through using HR is perfectly sencefull.
Only thing people really need to get rewarded for is using the game engines advantages, so read the engine and get rewarded.

Edit:
I'm not using HR department atm btw.

I've just started and my plan is to not enable HR until the end of next season. I am sure there will be players I want to cut between now and then so it gives me a season to get my roster sorted and then the entire rosters should be close to being full of keepers. Wages are low in the early game too.

from me too. I havent turned the HR on yet but I will be doing so after end of season rollover but that was because I had taken the time to read the forums and see when the best time is to turn this on finance wise. I reached this point late in the season so figured that it would be better to negotiate with a full season ahead of me to get it right instead of having just a few weeks to sort my players out
