This is what's in my spreadsheet for rating players at age 30.

The 7 variables in SUM are Physicals, pos,vis,int and Foot.

T2 = age
S2 = TW.

You can also add in position specific skills on top of that of course, and then weight everything for specific positions.

You now have a way to compare players of all ages.

If you wanted to do a really good job, you could study all trades to date and compare them to this rating to associate a price with every position and every rating.

Then you could set a % limitation for trades i.e. both players must be within a certain % of each other according to their ratings.

You could do the same with money, and if a number of players hit the ceiling, you have some sort of a tie breaker.

Yeah , that looks like a nice simple solution to implement, and very understandable too .... I'm sure all the Newbies will read the Manual and think "ahhh, yes of course ... =SUM(D2;E2;F2;G2;O2;P2;Q2) + (30 - T2) * (S2 + 50) / 10 * 1.2 ..... now why didn't I think of that" ......

There is no need for anyone but the devs to "understand" it. And like all the formulas they use, they can make them available in the manual or not. There would be no need though since an understanding of them would be of no use to anyone.

The end result would be that some trades are allowed, some not.

As previously stated, a similar system could be used for money as well. Basically, only players over a certain rating could be bid on to infinity.

The problem is because the formula is such an integral part of the trade process managers will need to understand it...

I don't know why you say that.

The devs could have this universal stat on all players. They might allow a difference of 20%. So a trade either can occur between 2 players or not.

Understanding the way the players are rated will mean nothing.You would simply look at the deal and like it or not based on your own criterea/opinion.

It would mean everything you see a player in the trades that you like then you try to find an acceptable player to trade. Obviously you dont want to trade your "marquee" players so you start with those that are expendable. Without knowing this formula or how it works then you could spend fruitless hours trying to find a player you are willing to let go that fits this formula and not get him because someone else beat you to finding that player or you dont want to lose the player that fits the criteria. But under the current system you only have to click the send button on the transfer listed player oh and have the funds in the bank.

I guess we need to speak about how the trade process would work.

1/ Put a player up for trade and accept an offer - or not.

2/ Put a player up for trade, specify the position of the player you want, and then be forced to accept the best offer (within limit).

Here's an idea -

You put a player up for trade. This means any other manager can make offers. They can offer players, money, or anything else, and combinations of things (coaches, fan shop goods, draft choices). There is no time limit initially.

The host manager can s e l e c t the offer he is most interested in. Once he has done this, the auction will close within 3 days. The offer he favours most at the end of that time wins. Any offer made b4 the host chooses a favourite, can be withdrawn. So the only offer that cannot be withdrawn is the favoured one.

What if this calculation runs in the background? I.E. a manager puts up a player for trade, and any manager who clicks on that player in the trading block will only be able to set up one of his players who meets the criteria. So only those players will be visible in his list to choose from.
Then after say 3 days the manager who started the trade will see a list (similar to the youth pull list) with all the players he can trade for, and can accept one of them. If he doesn't accept then there'll be no trade (and maybe a little morale, TC hit for the player who stays with the team that wants to trade him? like 20%?)

Exactly.

The rating formula ultimately indicates who can be traded with who. If the devs published it, it would merely be for curiosity's sake.
