On Saturday 4th August (1 day before season rollover started) I scouted player with the thought of buying him. What I failed to notice was it said he is retiring at season end.

When season rollover started on the next day I checked my Bidlist and when I clicked on his name it said "Player has retired".

I won the auction on Monday 6th August 19:58:52 and the player has now joined my team, but I'm not sure he should have.

Thanks

He was a free agent? Or bound to a team?

Usually you can buy such retiring players, and they will join your team until season end. Nothing wrong so far. Here the seasonrollover was the reason for the not working retirement. We will discuss what to do in this case, and how to prevent the season rollover from doing such things in the future

Don't allow to sell player, who want to retire, after the regular season.

Why? If someone misses it and lose some money, his/her mistake - penalty comes by player's retirement.

By the way, maybe there could be such an option: Manager can persuade a player to continue a career. By higher salary as the example? Of course it should be more difficult to have the player for next season with every year above 30.

We will not act in this single case. The player will still retire at season end. So you have him for one season - congrats

In the future such things won't be possible due the changes we made on the transfer market. And we are discussing about a limited sell option for retiring players, too.
