I would only sell starplayers if I can't afford to keep them, or I'm in serious financial trouble.

lose the Transfer Market addiction and actually start becoming a football coach rather than a Hedge Fund Manager

Actually, most of my starters were bought cheap and/or draft picks. The two oline players I sold a couple of days ago for 50 million combined I had bought in feb. for 4.5 million combined.

I have 20 million in the account now, I'm just thinking about after I renegotiate contracts it will shrink quickly...I'm sure that if you check the contract size on the mag for the top 10 of the week you will see plenty from me...

I would only sell if my team had financial problems.

Keep him and make your team the best it can be!

I was going to post about a week ago a rather lengthy message about how we are finally seeing what the salary threshold will look like in terms of where the avg team will be capped out.

My man SFniner... you are not the only one who had to think really hard about selling a draft pick for the sole purpose of cash influx... not for investments... but for payroll.

I've had to re-structure how I train my players in total. I never thought about how a singular skill rating effects player salary. I really figured that the sum total of all the players skills would warrant the salary... ::shakes head::

Economically.. my strategy hasnt changed since day 1 and seeing the forest now I think i'm still in good shape for the duration... but I can see where my team will be capped. there will definitely be a balancing act for teams when the overalls start to plateau and you have to keep winning games or else sell picks and risk losing further. I'm really interested in seeing how all this works out.

listen, don't take this personally (because I know you're a bit sensitive, and you think people are always having a dig at you) , but ....

Your statement above reminds me of one of my mates who is a compulsive gambler. He always has a comment along the lines of "I won £2,500 at the casino two days ago". But he always seems to have mysteriously forgotten about the £1,500 per session that he probably loses 7 days per week , I never seem to hear about his losses ... strange that.

If I had the time and the inclination (I've actually got neither) to wade through your Transfer History (whose length is of truly biblical proportions), I'm sure that I could find transactions where you've lost plenty of money on players too.

But ignoring your TM performance for now, just re-read your own original post and you'll see that you basically answered your own question .... i.e. one of the reasons that you're thinking of selling this player is so that you can "still be able to participate in the TM to a degree". And what type of players would you potentially buy on the TM ? Superstars or potential superstars . Therefore does it make sense to sell this guy that you regard as a superstar in order to gamble that you might be able to convert the cash received into a superstar of the future ? Only if you've got a gambler's mentality . Most people wouldn't be so greedy and would concentrate on holding onto their current collection of best players.

The other thing worth mentioning is where this player would end up ... I think Panoramix would buy him and you know what that means ....the next time you meet Majalorca Pigs in a Bowl game, this player would score the winning TD (it's usually what happens in life) and that would eat you up for ever.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm really not surprised by this statement .... when I've seen some of your players on the TM, they're often the most one-skilled players I've seen like here.

Not only do extreme one-skillers not appear to perform as well as equivalent round-built players, the skills vs wages graph is against you .... towards the top-end of skills, the graph starts to go almost exponential .... and exponential (in this case) = financial pain. Either that or you have a player whose salary is so ludicrous it makes him virtually unsaleable on the TM (witness the player a few weeks ago with the wages of $437,000).
