If you have other DL in your roster and if there's place in DC, he will play AFAIK

So random otherwise? I guess so. Would be nice to have some sort of reserve for that to. Like to be able to nominate LBs after all DL are used for example. It would be a little silly to see a QB playing DL!

You can put your LBs at the bottom of DL in DC

I think we can decline all of these suggestions. Sorry!

10-12 DBs are not to much, because you can have 70 players. This is enough space. You can also argue, that you need 10 OL and most NFL teams have mostly 8-9 OL on their roster.

To play CB as SF without the "out-of-position" penalty will never happen. We had a long discussion after the introduction of the AC coaches. You can play with CB as SF, but you will get allways the penalty.

Having only 5 DL on your DC and one go down with an injury is like you have only 2 QB on your DC and both went down. If you have not enough players of one position on your DC, than it is your own risk, that a non-DL/QB must play this position after injuries. You can still put a DL as Gunner on your DC, who will be selected for the DL only in situations, when not enough starting or backup DL are avaiable for a special formation.

Yeah, but then I get LBs playing there, and taking the OOP penalty when it is not even needed at all.

I would point out here that all OL, DL, and LB are interchangable. Comparing DE/DT, OLB/ILB is about the same as comparing CB/SS too, imo.

This is RZA and not the NFL. We have some differences to real life.

It just occured to me that we need too many CBs in this game atm.

You really need at least 6 - 4 for the 4CB formation, an allowance for 1 injured b4 the game and then another during it.

And we need at least 4 SFs - so that's 10 DBs all up. Too many?

Sould we simply have DBs?

Or maybe allow 2 DBs per team that can play CB or SF without the position penalty?

I have 6 CBs and 4 SFs on my depth chart and I don't feel like I miss players on other positions.
It's a management game, you know?

5 CBs + 5 SFs

you dont need 6 CBs and 5 SFs on the 5.3.3 which seems to be cookie cutter def formation of choice. hell your SF will pull up his lazyboy and let the line do all the work.

I only use 9 players max. I have 5 cb, 2 ss, and 2 fs. I think my defense is pretty darn good.
