Example A:

Niners. Before Harbaugh horrible, with him SB contenders. Very little personel change from one season to the next in those 2 years. Singletary could give the motivational speeches but not effectively. He pissed more of the guys off than revved them up. Harbaugh is able to keep these same guys motivated who were a below .500 team before and are now super bowl contenders. This is why I like the idea of MOTY effect being tied to the coaches stats.

Yep, good example.

And tell me the Patriots are the same without Bill Belichick.

Makes me wonder if -G.O.A.T- would be -G.O.A.T- without Belichick?

Sorry, you couldn't be further from the truth.

I was talking about "motivational speeches" not about no influenz of a HC

I played 20 Years had about 12 different Headcoaches or even more half of them were "big talkers" half where more the silent guys which lead through example and wisdom, guess which where the better, got more out of the same player and where more sucsessfull?

Players got a feeling for coaches believe me...

Teams that are 1/3 paying attention
1/3 not giving a toss
1/3 actually being "anrgy"

are ususally loser teams with no hope because the 2/3 of the team are next to useless no matter how good the players are.

Winning teams are cohesive teams where EVERYONE is moving in the same direction. This starts and stops with the coach. He either has the team or not.

Leading by example is always the way but head coachs cannot be silent that is just laughable. As a coach you pick and choose your moments to go ballistic and when to take it easy. You build a raport with your group. Empathise with each player. It's hard but good ones can do this and yes motivational speeches do work if you have the group.

Bombastic loud mouths who have no cache never acheive anything as a coach because what they say is not believable because they could never truly back it up.

Why is it that so often teams in turmoil change coaching staffs and luckily find a good coach suddenly turn things around with little player personnel changes. 49er being a massive recent case in point. New England forever. These coaches have something that the players buy into totally.

I'm sorry I very much doubt when Jim Harbaugh stands up in front of his team to address them 1/3 are paying no attention and 1/3 want to kill him...please that is just stupid. Some teams may be like that (losers) the winners most certainly are not.

I think you don´t get my point.

The thing is that as in RL there a players that a quit guys, loud guys and so on. Every player has it´s own aproach of a game. There are players that are so pumped up with adrenalin that they only want out of the locker room and "kill" somebody, there are those guys that need a "kick in the butt" and there a that guys who are so focused on the job they got to do that nothing reaches them in front of game. That´s what i mean with the 1/3 thing .

The work to be done has to come over the week in every single practice, but right in front of a game those speeches work more or less nothing, if your team is a piece of crap you could talk as much as you want, nothing will change.

I simply doubt the influenze of those speeches...
