once again, completely agree with the above post - word perfect IMO.

I was exactly the same - promoted out of 2.2 at my first season in S4 to 1.1 - have scrambled to a 6-10 record in my first season in 1.1 and reality states thats as good as it will get for me for at least the next 2/3 seasons - even upcoming teams from 2.1 or 2 are likely to be better off than me as they will have accrued more income!

Put me in a 32 team division of similar teams and i have chance to be successful, progress and feeling im not just treading water and hoping that my results arent too embarrasing!

I totally agree with dark wing and sneaky_minotaur.
We need more competitive leagues with the possibility to make short & long term goals to grow.

The problem isnt the idea but the programming. I really like the idea and I think Pete isnt opposed to it either apart from a programming point of view.

Remember this isnt a business for Pete its a hobby. To go through such a major redevelopment without outside assistance will take a lot of spare time or a lot of hours in works time.

Pete maybe you could guesstimate the cost that we would need to contribute as players to impliment this idea? Per season of course because you would need to give up your job to do this.

If you need some help with a business model I can help with the accounting and there are others who can help

I find it exceptionally demoralizing to realize that I'm going to have to spend at least the next two seasons with no chance to compete until my team develops more. What am I supposed to do, just quit paying attention for 6 or 8 months until I'm competitive again?

Just switch the Bot-flush off in your settings. In that case you get promoted once you won the Championship games...if you enable the bot flush, you take a shorter path, but more bumpy - this is not an issue of the game design

Thanks a lot for the offer, but no. I am doing this for fun, not for money...the money I collect is ONLY for keeping the server alive, which costs me quite some euros each months...

I am just not convinced I should change this particular thing, since it is somehow the base of the game...I don't see the outcome of this. The posts made so far have their points, but still this is not convincing me. There are so many positive things out of this structure, I would like to stick with.

And finally: for me it would be much more demoralising to enter in League 123.4 instead 3.1. We would have the same issues on the bot flush, by entering too strong leagues...

Oh sure, I'll pick up a few wins against bots or similarly situated owners but I will have absolutely no shot at even making the playoffs much less truly competing for a championship. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind losing what I mind is not having a chance no matter how good my game plans are, their players are just too much better than mine. That's just not fun.

This idea plus -

a little squash
mandatory botflush based on "Rank Global".
No CofC
Less playoff money in both SC and League.

I have to completely disagree.

As already stated, it is a lot more fun to be biding your time by playing against other teams of similar rank.

Then an auto, mandatory Global Rank based bot flush every season keeps everything moving along nicely.

You could even offer places made vacant by teams that go bot mid season to teams in the next division down, and then their place offered to teams a division down from there, etc. This needs to be voluntary since playoff money and trophies are at stake.

My team played 16 matches.
Before the two of them I was not sure of my victory. (2 my wins)
Before the three - I do not know exactly who will win. (1 my win and 2 losses)
Other 11, I was sure of my victory. (11 my wins).
Even before the championship I'm sure that I would win 11 matches out of 16.
Boredom.

I am sure that a lot of teams are in the same situation.
Including those who even before the championship is sure that they will lose 11 games out of 16 ...

I'm not a mathematician, but I think the difference is like this:

Current system, 8 regions:
Div 1: 256
Div 2: 512
Div 3: 1024
Div 4: 2048
Tot: 3840 teams

Suggestion, 1 region:
Div 1: 32
Div 2: 64
Div 3: 128
Div 4: 256
Div 5: 512
Div 6: 1024
div 7: 2048
Tot: 4064 teams

So, the main difference is that the current 2 divisions will be split into 5 divisions. And regardless on how many players joins the game, it'll only be the 3 top divisions, that'll be harder too reach.

Pro: More competitive and fun on each league level.
Con: Huge programming task? You won't be able to see all your matches live.

So I think if we're at 10k managers it'll be competitive and fun with both setups, but a reorganization will maybe be the fastest way to get there?

I know it's easy when you're not the one to have to do it, but I'm at a loss as to why so many seem to think this is such a huge task.

It's a reshuffle of where a lot of the teams are presently and that's about it. And a little trickle down - or is there a lot?
