The idea is to structure salary of players much like the nfl does. Would it be possible to have the option in the HR to include a signing bonus? In the NFL a signing bonus is really just a part of the total income on the contract but the signing bonus affects only the first year (maybe second too?) and so the player takes less salary a year than they would have for the balloon payment early. So as an example:

Player has skill of 45 and salary is around 200k an update. Over the course of a season you are looking at salary of over 5 million for the season. My idea would be more for the teams using franchise tags as those are the spendy players one would think. So 4 seasons is 20 million. In this idea there is a fixed amount you can offer for a signing bonus (10%, 25%) of the total contract you offer that is paid upfront. So say you pay 5 million of that hefty contract upfront it lowers your amount per u p d a t e accordingly.

This may free up some room for teams when they get to those critical salary points and also use up some initial cash now. If it is opened up for all players then it would take some cash up fairly soon. I'm sure there are a lot of contracts that will be up at rollover to negotiate. The first 5 year FA contracts and the 4 years contracts from the next season.

con: it makes it more complex to negotiate, and it is hard to code...

Pro: it brings in another level of management choices...

therefore: +-1

I like it but as Pete said it could be difficult to code. If its workable then

Sounds interesting. But what happens when such a player is sold on the transfer market. Currently the buyer here does not take over the contract like it might be possible to do in real life. Therefore the buyer might get a real shock when the salary jumps up. Or could there be a hint about this on the player page?

They can see the skills and then have to renegotiate a contract if in CM anyway. My only concern would be with sides who have oodles of cash using some of this up to increase the gap between the top sides and those on their heels.
