Well here's my take on it. I don't think it's somnething that you can say it's either black or white tho, it always depends on personel and packages on the field to know the success of each formation.
Example: I could use the 3-3-5 to prevent the pass, but if I have 3 exceptionaly strong DL and 3 Extraordinary LB's I could still be very effective vs the run. 5-2 - [Run Prevent First] 5-3-3 - [Run Prevent First] 4-4-3 - [Run Prevent First] Goalline D - [Run Prevent First] 3-4-4 - [Balanced] 4-3-4 - [Balanced vs 2 WR Formations] 3-3-5 - [Pass Prevent First] Dime 4DL MLB 4CB 2SF - [Pass Prevent First] Shotgun 4 WR - [Pass Formation] Shotgun 2 WR - [Pass Formation] Pro set - [Balanced Formation] Goalline O - [Run Formation] I-formation - [Balanced Formation] Wishbone - [Run Formation] Big I formation - [Run Formation] |

It should be depent on the fieldposition.
The Goalline D should be the worst against the pass especially in the Red Zone because you have 4 LBs who could also cover the Receivers and could intercept passes. Especially in the last 10 yrds to GL the Safeties aren´t really important for the passing game. That´s what I learn from the engine. SF should cover deep pass. That´s not really important in the Red Zone. In the Endzone SF tackles are useless. If pete wants I can explain it to him in german via PN. Don´t know if everybody could understand what I mean^^ bad english I know. Next thing is the dime-SG4 coverage. The rungame from the SG4 is too efficient at the moment. How should you stop it with the dime? there are no TE´s who can block, only 5 OL against 4 DL´s but the FB mosty makes long runs and first downs. Of course you could use maybe the 3-4-4 or 3-3-5 against the run but there are only 3 DL so less power in the Line. Only one pass now could change your used defense back to dime or you are now worse against the pass because you can´t cover all 4 WR´s. So maybe this could be the ranking Dime 4DL MLB 4CB 2SF 3-3-5 3-4-4 4-3-4 4-4-3 5-2 (worst defense formation. against the pass no one covers TE if the SF cover the TE there is everyone of the backfield in 1 on 1. horrible. In run game it is only good for runs over center or guard because over the end there is allways no OLB for tackle) 5-3-3 Goalline D (like explained special formation worse against pass on midfield different in the redzone without deep pass) Shotgun 4 WR (best for pass, worse for run) Shotgun 2 WR (balanced little bit better for pass) I-formation (balanced) Pro set (balanced, not so good for pass like I-Formation because no FB who could block DE´s or blitzing guys) Wishbone Big I formation (could be changed or similar like Wishbone in pass efficiency) Goalline O (also special formation. Is called Goalline O because it should be used near the GL. So that should also influence the efficiency in run and pass. normally it is like the SG 2 so good for pass and run) Last edited on 2012-10-26 19:40:32 by Nogard |
