Is there any rule of thumb on what percentage you should offer for franchise contracts?
Which positions do most people have franchise contracts for? QB? RB? Somewhere else? Steve SD Blitz |

Whoever is going to cost me the most right now. My MLB is at 42 tackling already. If I keep training him in tackling he can reach 50 and be very costly if it was a two year contract because the next contract would be max pay. I signed him to a 4 year contract beyond this season for 200k an u p d a t e instead of being 500k an u p d a t e for the seasons after this next one. It will save me some $$ for now. At 26 it will for the most part finish his career. So for now it is the ones that I will save the most by using them. In the future when they are all expensive? I'll have a core group that will have a MLB, QB, DE, DE, RB, and an Oline.

I give my players a franchise contract if they are between 30 and 35 and should be trained over 40 in the next few season. I would never train a player to 50 with under 30 years old. I'm not willing to spend the maximum a few season.

So you think 30-35 is the best spot to give guys franchise contracts? I have some players that are 27ish in primary skills and I'm debating whether I should give them franchise contracts or give them a single year contract and sign them at the beginning of next season when they're in the low/mid-30s in primary skills (if I train evenly).

My suggestion is to wait until they reach the high 30's. The reason?
skill of 30 costs 15,500 based on skills skill of 40 costs 88,300 based on skills Skill of 45 is about 250k based on skills Skill of 50 is 503k based on skills. For me the skill of 40 isn't killing me, but when I get to 250k+ it drains the pocket book. I would recommend waiting until they are at the low 40's.....so that you don't have to pay the crazy prices for 3 to 5 years. |

Have a look at the wage curve
Source: http://www10.pic-upload.de/29.10.12/2hgqy7bjczo9.jpg For me below 30 is to early and after 35 it is to late. For sure it play a rolle, if you want to push a player to 50 or only to 45. Another facter could be the age of the player. |

I think a franchise contract should be offered when a top player hits a certain age, which combined with a franchise contract's length will add up to 30 years old. Before giving out contracts a skill shouldn't go higher than 36 to keep wages managable. At 36 the wages are ~44k, so having a 55 man roster at 36 highest skill will only cost 2.5 million plus change for the other 15 players you might have on your roster.

Yes! Age matters too! My MLB I signed is 26. So he will be 31 when the contract is up. So by signing him now to 200k when at skill level of 41.2 there will be no real increase in costs for the rest of his career and I can train him up to 50. I would change my recommendation to include age as a factor.
If I trained his tackling up to 50 this season (easily possible) and I signed him to a 2 year deal It would only cost me the 90k per u p d a t e for 2 seasons (total of 2.1 million per season for 3 seasons for 7.48 million total). Then it would cost me the next 2 seasons 503k an u p d a t e for about 12 million a season and total 24 million for the two season together). So the 5 years would have a cost of 31.5 million. By using the franchise contract at 200k an u p d a t e for 5 seasons it will be 4.8 million per season for 5 seasons with a total of 24 million. I save 7+million by waiting until this point in his career. Perhaps a better suggestion is to say those players at 40 and age 25-27 I would use the franchise contracts. |

My MLB is at 42 tackling already. Wow, that's alot of tackling! Sorry for the Offtopic here, but how many tackles did this LB missed/made? If you don't mind sharing. I ask this because that guy must be among the best in tackling skill (if not the best), and want to know if that is translating to the game. |
