Okay, so with the new Game Engine and "formation relations", what the optimal defense to play versus the various offensive formations?

I'm assuming the penalty for a run in Shotgun 4WR is similar to the defensive penalty versus the run for Dime...

I guess my thinking is that for a Offense like Shotgun 4WR, there is a large passing bonus and a large run penalty. Likewise, Dime defense probably what a large pass defense bonus and a large run defense penalty. Those are probably offense.

But what about Pro Set? Is it neutral on both?

And is it a relational matrix, where the bonus is dependent on the offense versus defense or is it just cumulative - - bonus from offense + penalty from defense = total modifier.

I can't say if there are penalties but I have worked on a defensive system where against each formation and each type of play I should always have at least one man over to deal with the situation.

That's not saying that it works or even if my players are good enough to deal with the situations that arise.

Penalties are the wrong word for it. The defense is getting small small bonuses if lining up "correctly". And yes, on pass, a Dime might work better than a 5-x-x, no matter what Offense formation is on the field

Okay...fair enough. If one defense gets a bonus and another defense doesn't, then whether its a penalty or not is a matter of semantics.

So it sounds like the pass/run bonus are irrespective of the offensive formation...so there isn't a matrix for formation A vs. formation B, but just cumulative pass/run bonuses for each individual formations.

Thanks,

Steve
