So, i just gather the playbooks orders are the ones that matter. but why are we given the option if it does not work or is irrellevent.

From manual:
The game settings are overridden in a game if a playbook setting matches a game situation.

I think the main reason for these settings is to avoid situations where new teams play without a playbook.

ok. i guess so. id prefer to not have a play book in fact. however i can do this by not icking a play book order and leaving it blank. im gonna try that actually. i cant see why it all has to be so hard.

I think that a sensible way of doing things is to use 'Game Settings' to dictate your General style of play, and use the Playbook to accomplish very specific tasks (e.g. Kicking/Punting at a certain time or distance).

As long as you remember that the Playbook overrides the Game Settings, there isn't any need to over-complicate things. Some Managers seem to delight in having a Playbook setting for every possible situation, IMO that's probably overkill ...... I think it's perfectly possible to achieve a coherently executed Match by intelligently using a combination of Game Settings plus a small Playbook (which is specifically designed to complement the Game Settings).

It gives us control.

I guess this starts a debate as to whether it should be more a manager game or a coach game.

It is this, the DC and the formations that make this game clearly better than TOG imo.

You were too good the first few seasons, thus we added a "special function" to the playbook evaluation in the engine

but seriously my team cannot do anything from any formation and cant stop any formation consistently. i think the 3-4 and 4-3 defences are unbalanced and relying on a basic game plan gets me nowhere. i have given up this season and im just trying to avoid relegation at this point with the schedule i have coming up its looking dodgy at best

It is quite similar for me. I lost league games close I expected to win...It got better with taking the safeties away from heavy blitzing, but this is not the full story...
