Oh don't worry, I know all about Germany/German Food from personal experience....... the Germans might know how to make good cars, but they never extended their technical/engineering skills to German cuisine

Hm, then I guess you had not the full experience, or you had tourist menus all the time...could be?

See, there are regions in germany cooking quite good. You have to name saxony here, and bavaria. The kitchen in the north of germany is usually a bit less "spicy", and a bit "less complex" - this is the wrong word, in german I would say "die Küche im Norden ist einfacher".

What worries me most about the UK kitchen is the fact that a stupid scientist told you once Salt is bad, as example. And by this, your growing chiefs followed that advice and forgot how to use Salt in a proper way. I had a discussion about it with a restaurant owner in Scotland, in Inveraray. She confirmed this, and told you can taste and smell how old the Chief is. If it is a proper kitchen full of Herbs, spices, and some Salt on the meal, he is more than 20 years in his duty. I payd some attention on that after this discussion, and have to admit, she seems to be right with her claims...The last time this was confirmed when I followed my son to south england, he was on language learning exchange there for a week, and I had the chance to go with him. It was a nice family, we received the full warm welcome, we felt very happy - even it was in December 2010 where the countryside was flooded by snow, and no further travel was possible. We were bound at "home", they werent working, the kids not at school. So we had 4 days with them - what an experience...but on the table, it was a nightmare

However, it was more or less meant to be a funny comment, sh8888...don't take it that serious

I would of said that in German too Pete

Personally I am not a huge user of salt myself although I will throw all kinds of herbs and spices into a meal. I must admit to liking my food to have a bit of spice in it. My sons great grandmother was German and when I lived with my ex she used to send over a side dish to have with our roast dinner on a sunday, I know it contained red cabbage and bacon but cant remember what else was in it. It was nice.

Naah, I lived in Germany and grudgingly endured the full German Cuisine experience ..... fortunately, my taste buds have now totally recovered from the trauma

Last story on this one: When we travelled back from Ireland in Summer 2010, we stopped at the Eurotunnel, hungry, waiting for the train to leave in 1 hour. So we entered the store, but at that time the usual tourist food stands like McDonalds and so on were closed. So we grabbed some "sandwiches", one was named "english classic", with vinegar cucumbers, cheddar, bacon and a sour-sweet cocktail sauce with sweet onion...one bite, and we "delivered" the rest of it to the waste bin. It was soooo terrible. Back from the Island, we entered the first tankstop in Belgium, and behaved like robbers, when buying all their sandwiches they had in stock, with real cheese, salami and so on....that was DELICIOUS
