We should separate them from each other. A Sack should be accounted for in the stats as "only" a Sack and not both as a Sack and a TFL like it is now. Tackling the QB when he's scrambling can be a TFL, not when he is on the pocket attempting a pass, at least that's how I think the official stat is accounted. TFL are not given to players who are able to Sack the QB. They are given if the QB is scrambling and is tackled behind the LOS.

But because I am not 100% sure I thought I'd ask to those with more Football know how if this is correct or does infact a Sack count as a TFL in the official statistic?

i don't think they are counted as such right now. i have players with sacks, but without TFLs, and vice versa. So i think the engine counts them correctly: TFLs for run plays, and sacks for pass.

i was always under the impression the QB is the only one who can get sacked...any tackles for losses are on other positions such as stopping a run play behind the los...might be wrong though

Hummm, are you sure about that? Because I've seen exactly the opposite!

Check the sacks and TFL's on the 2 DE's from SDBlitz (Jeffery Seay & Cristian Luna) then go to the gamecenter and see how many TFL they had during the game, not Sacks tho, just TFL and see if it matches...I did it and it doesn't, it only does with the Sacks, Cristian Luna had 2 sacks and 1 TFL during the game but under TFL it shows 3 TFL's. Jeffery Seay had zero TFL during the game and 3 sacks, yet under TFL it shows 3 TFL.

I might of missed something in the PBP but I don't think so.

A QB can become a runner, so I think that when he is scrambling out of the pocket and he's tackled behind the line of scrimmage it counts as a TFL.

Yes, I am. In my #defense" target="_blank">team stats you will find 4 players with no TFLs but at least one sack and 4 other players with no sacks but at least one TFL.

I guess a scrambling QB does become a runner, yes.

And that all sacks are not counted as TFLs is also proven by your very own Jaime Reis: 12 Sacks, no TFLs.

He actually has 6 TFL, and that doesn't prove anything since tackles for loss haven't been counted for the entire season.
