I heard of many players the phrase: "too much" in relation to other games.

That's a valid point of cause and it is one thing all game developers have to think about.
The balance between a complex (hence much effort needed) game and a game which does not need much time to play.

Many pc-games companies did change their classic game concepts to have it more so called casual gamer friendly.
With the result that the fans of the more complex predecessor games are mad and the new casual games take over the brand.
The risk with that is, that once those casual gamers do look for the next IN-game and leave, the brand has basically no gamers left at all, since the old fans are already gone.

For me, personally, it's not too much here, but I can understand it is for many.
I see it as Peter, in that case it is good the walk away, instead of messing up the forum and give the game a bad reputation wherever they think they should post something about it.

The point is to have a good balance between "too much" and too simple.

"too much": Managers might be scared and leave after few day, but managers who stay have fun a very long time

"too simple": Many managers stay for some month, but then they are bored and leave the game.

So I like it more complex with long-term challenges.

I think the best ways to get people to stick around are -

1/ a much better and comprehensive match engine (hard)

why would a more comprehensive engine make new players stick around?! i would think it would be the opposite as it would be too hard for them to learn. i gues we will have to wait for the Hosh engine to arrive for the better and more comprehensive match engine!

2/ A stronger starting team (not so hard)

this is only for people who dont want to put any effort into the game and get instant results. todays generation of everyone is equal!!! wot a load of balls.

I'd say you want to focus on the players that think -TOG-is too simple. We're the ones that end up here. You can't please everyone.
With any game you will have people signing up and quitting in the first week. You have to sign up before you can see whether the game is for you.

ps I assume you all know what game I mean lol

I should have added in my opening post, how we can help new managers stick around without taking away the complexity of the game?

Thats why I was thinking it would be a good idea to have the information they need on each page when they start off.

But I like what the danish guy(Fummer) said in a earlier post how he gets in contact with new danish players. I think we can all take some responsibility in trying to welcome new players and get them involved.

Well, I don't know about all that.

I do think new managers would benefit from a 'better' team when they start and it might lead to more managers staying. When I say 'better' I don't mean 'equal' or 'not having to put any effort into it"

But for example:

When I first started one of the things I felt I had to do was to basically blow up my team and re-assign all player positions because the positions a lot of my player started with was not their best position based on their stats.

So in the first week I played the game I had to learn what stats mattered for each position and then change the positions of just about my entire roster to match. All just so I could be a competitive and not totally suck.

That represents a high bar to entry on the game. Lowering that bar a little with a slightly better starting team (one that doesn't need so much position changing) might help retain a few managers that get intimidated by the upfront workload.

To put in one sentence: make the positional assignments on the start roster less random. True?

I don't think it's the problem.

I think the problem is that some new Managers don't realise that you can and should change the player's position to whatever suits his skills .... or put another way ....

New managers often think that their 'Quarterback' is shit and they should either put up with him or buy another, they don't realise that they've probably got a much more suitable QB on the Roster but he's actually labelled as a WR or DL etc.

Well, yes both.

If we're going to stick with this whole brevity thing...
