Serious: Why shoud a new manager be pampered that way?
3-6 Draft players? for what? Selling?

Pete was recently talking about what to do about noob ass kickings and this thread is about retention - seems a no brainer to me.

As for what they should do with them, they can stick them up their jumper for all I care. Maybe they should be simply given a bunch of cash, or maybe a combo of cash/draftees?

Some draftees for obvious reasons
Enough cash so they don't need to sell any of the draftees

How about a message like this:
wrote:The previous owner was horrible at team management and has left your a very disorganized roster.

Here is a short memo that shows you what some more experienced managers deem to be the key skills for each position:

Quarterback: Vision/ Intelligence/ Strength/ Passing
Wide Receiver: Positioning/ Speed/ Agility / Catching
Running Back: Positioning/ Speed/ Agility / Carrying
Full Back: Positioning/ Speed/ Strength / Blocking
Tight End: Positioning/ Strength/ Catching/ Blocking
Offensive Lineman: Positioning/ Strength/ Footwork/ Blocking
Defensive Lineman: Vision/ Strength/ Footwork/ Tackling
Linebacker: Vision/ Positioning/ Strength/ Tackling
Cornerback: Vision/ Speed/ Tackling
Safety: Vision/ Speed/ Tackling
Punter: Punting/ Strength
Kicker: Kicking/ Strength
Gunner: Speed/ Tackling
Kick Returner: Speed/ Carrying

I just c/p that, I'd could do some re-visioning perhaps.

I don't think the biggest threat is the ass kicking.
Everyone who starts a management game as new manager knows that established teams will bang your head into the ground.
I think the biggest threat is the overall complexity.
What will help them, if they have 6 drafties in the beginning?
They still have 40 other waterboys to juggle around with and they still have to adjust the positions of almost everyone of the players.
I don't think that such "help" like cash and drafties does solve the real problems.
All new managers now start on level 3. I can't see a problem when they start there and get beaten in league games once in a while when not BOT is up on gameday.

Another way to keep more people playing here is to improve game design, graphics imo.

I have seen a few newbs posts saying they are put off by the beatings they get from old teams. I agree to some extent that there players are not good enough but surely that is to be expected.
But out of all the managment games ive played this is the one game where ive seen worse teams beat better teams on a fairly regular basis. Its all down to how good your playbook is.
One thing we can do is get rid of the pass medium and long option until it is fixed. Because all experienced managers know to stay away from this, so at the moment its only there to cause newbs pain when they get intercepted 5,10,15 times a game. This will help there gameplay to some degree.
As i said at the beginning maybe having a visual demo for playbooks would help. Or maybe allow them 1 months worth of free scrimages so they can get improve there gameplay.
But i will repeat myself and say get rid of the medium and long pass option until it is fixed. or have a HUGE warning sign next to the medium and long pass option saying"This will greatly increase interseptions"

sorry, but there will NEVER be such a list of skills.

Lining up teams to have more equal skills on the field is a nice idea, but not practical.

More draftees won't solve anything, as more money won't.

this is already in the RZA for Dummies pdf I think. And pete told us that their is already a message with helpful links and i am for sure the RZA for dummies link is in this message. User have do sth only this way they would learn. You couldnt pamper everyone and spoonfed everything befor they will eat. You definitely have to use your own brain.

game has 3 divisions now and don't see the problem, and I'm sure as more managers join up there will be even more divisions. Noob ass kickings are part and parcel of most games, and if some managers quit because of it then they are probably not the sort of managers you want in the long term.

Its not like a football/soccer manager game which is so much easier to work out, American football is suppose to be complex and thats why we enjoy it so much, as long as its clear to new managers that the game is in development then I don't see a problem

aesthetically the game could be better, but I guess the game itself has to be the main focus at the moment and not how pretty it is, the one thing that does grate me at the moment though is the match field when watching a game, sorry to say this, but to me it serves no purpose and kind of reminds me of an old american football game on the spectrum 48k
