This topic is only for idea and discussion of improving the TM so no trade talk and no ebay style biding as have been through out the window at this time.

So let discuss the good and the bad of the TM and how it may be improved

Good
-well organized
-easy to use
-nice time frame for bids(3 days)
-easy to use filters

BAD
1-have to be online last minute to win most bids
2-new people joining in the bids after bid wars have gone on for
10 -20mins after deadline
3-no way to be sure you get your need for a player (money wise)

possible ways to fix the bad
1- unsure
2- make bids close to after deadline to only people who have made bids on that player before
3- allow owners to set a reserve( a minimal price for the sell to be process at the end of the biding) on a sell. so If the the reserve is not met the player is simple not sold.

OK lets hear you thoughts.
Simple I want to hear 3 things only 3 things
the good of the TM
the Bad
How the Bad may be fix

Good
- simple
- transparent
- same chance for everyone

bad
- you can only bid what you have on one player but you can bid the same amount on as many players as you want at the same day. players could be pushed with money the team never has.

solution
- you can only bid what you have for all players. if you have the highest bid on 1 player you should only able to bit bankmoney less your highest bid.

please let me say 1 thing andrew:

BAD
2-new people joining in the bids after bid wars have gone on for
10 -20mins after deadline

<< this one is only bad for the biding teams but it is a good one for sellers. It´s not only one way. the seller has allways the goal to reach the best and highest price. the bidder would pay the lowest amount he must for a player.

Absolute rubbish.

A Player is 'worth' whatever another Manager will pay for him.
So if you transfer list a player for 3 days and he sells for $20,000 .... then he's worth $20,000... simple as that.

The fact that some Managers overestimate the value of their own player(s) isn't the fault of the Transfer Market .... it's the Manager's unrealistic expectations that are at fault.

1) Good..

Simple, good search facility

2) Bad

You cannot bid exactly what you want to bid, when you want to bid it.
Sniping.
Irritating bid wars.

2 far exceeds 1

Simplest solution.. remove the 50% limit on bids.

Best solution.. good ol' Ebay style bidding

Or THIS

And quit being so damn bossy!

Firstly, I hate the idea of a manager being able to set a minimum, a lot of bids happen but no one reaches the min and it's a huge bloody waste of everyone's time.

So you remove the min bid and then you completely undermined the standing anti-cheating measures.

This is Ebay.

I support this with a veto page though i.e. a page where all sales over $X Million are visible for a week or so. Maybe something as simple as if x managers veto a sale then pete takes a look.

time ago I did a proposal.
(and in Suggestion thread I see there are similar proposals)

http://redzoneaction.org/football/index.php?page=community&subpage=thread&thread_id=4901

you aren't online but you want that player?
set max amount of money that you'll like spend for him.
the system will re-raise until to reach that price you set.
then no more bids for you.

(taken from another browser game where it works fine)

of course a online user will have always the last "word"

I pretty much agree with OP's GOOD and BAD.

Additions to BAD:
- I often do other stuff while in bid wars, and I have a tendency to sometimes forget them and miss the deadline.
- The bid wars can go on for over an hour at worst. Sometimes I just don't have time to sit and spam refresh for that long.

Solution suggestions:
- I'm a first year Software Engineer student (in C#) and I've created a small program for myself, in which I can copy my bidlist page and paste it into the program. The program will then give me a warning on when a deadline is approaching (popup+sound) - this only works for pre-bid war deadlines of course. I am not sure whether or not anyone else would like this program, or if I'm willing to share it

- A swedish auction site called Tradera has a system which I think could be incorporated here. There you have a set deadline, and users can place a bid on an item for how much THEY ARE WILLING to pay for it.

Explained:
1. Someone puts up an item for auction, sets initial prize to $50. The next "step", or minimum raise, is $10.
2. Bidder A comes in and places the first bid, he puts a bid at $100. The VISIBLE prize on the item is now $60 - the intial bid + one "step", but the system remembers A's actual bid.
3a. Bidder B sets a bid on the item for $80. Since this is LOWER than A's actual bid, the new prize for the item is $90 (B's bid + one step) and A is still the Highest Bidder.
3b. Bidder B sets a bid on the item for $125 - HIGHER than A's bid. The new prize will be $125, which is the amount B bidded and hus he/she becomes the Highest Bidder.

This continues til the deadline has passed. Sorry for my lack of auction terminology!
