@sh888; the CoC and supercup don't seem very much NFL-like to me either

The basic League/Conference/Division structure is NFL-like, the SC and CofC are "extras" that serve 2 purposes :-

(1) Economy - SC plays an important part in Finances, especially for newer Teams
(2) CofC - is the 'visible reward' for previous success. It also adds 'spice' ... i.e. you get to see the top teams playing each other.

You can have the same structure in the superleague, the only difference would be teams changing more often than they do now.

BMHO we should stick to NFL type of league, but what to do to keep the players staying in the game....? I believe the firm teams should be created, i mean noname teams should be given names ( Team Hurricanes, Team Chargers,.....) what would mark them as bot teams, and all the drafts that they would get up till now should stay in team. So the new players should already get a competitive team ( their handicap would already be that their players werent be able to train properly while bot and no new TM additions would be made while bot, players getting old, .....), we will avoid the results like 163:0, as starters with no money they will still be able to compete and get some thrill out of their game.

Yes i am a greenhorn in this game so probably closest to the view of new incoming players.

Not realy only the the winners of 1.1. Leagues are realy competetive there, with some luck a bot team could go very far there atm...

but you've contradicted your own argument .... only the 1.1 teams are competitive but a bot team could go far ?? ..... a bot team will go as far as the first human team it plays, simple as that.

afaik, the problem of bot teams in CofC is a problem with numbers/maths i.e. the competition is head-to head knockout, therefore it needs to be 32,64,128 etc .... the bots are solely there to 'pad' the numbers.

On a serious note though lets just say the bottom four teams come from Admirals........ top four teams to promote are from Sea Devils, Thunder....

Bwadders versus JonnyP, Grzymisław, Cantalupe, Buffalo, and Notsch among others. Now THAT is a league I'd like to see

Don't I have to finish in the bottom four to get relegated?

Several version of this idea have been thrown around on the forums before. Dark_wing suggested something similar a while back.

I do think reorganizing the league structure to add another league above 1.1 would be a good idea. Adding the 3.x leagues was a great step and all, but the next step would be adding a small number of the very best teams to a league above 1.1

While I like the idea of a league above 1.1, as has been pointed out there would be issues with what league teams might relegate back into when getting bumped from the super-league. Also issues with sim times. So doesn't seem too practical.

this is the point I was making.

Has anyone checked to see how many sides being promoted from div 2 actually get relegated the next season. To go through the divisions and win it all at the end is just a pipedream in any sport.

Wouldn't a creation of such a league render the CoC pointless?

We have to check the goals here..

is the primary goal to get rid of the COC?

I think the primary goal from the several people who have suggested something like this is to increase league parity. In other words, to make the teams in any given league a little closer to each others skill level so that there are more close competitive games and less one sided blow outs.

The primary goal then is more league games between opponents of similar team strength.

From the perspective of the top teams: adding the super-league would increase the competition level. More meaningful, interesting games during the league regular season. It's boring just blowing out weak teams, this would make for more challenging and interesting games. Plus tons of bragging rights for just being in the super-league and not relegating.

From the perceptive of the other teams: adding the super-league would mean more balanced and fun competition in the 1.1 leagues. Instead of getting blown out by teams who have been around much longer, managers will get to play more games against teams at their own level. Fewer teams will promote to 1.1 only to get repeatedly smashed, go win less, and immediately relegate back down to the 2.2 leagues.

As far as CoC, I don't see any reason it couldn't stay as is.

As far as "NFL Style" league, I don't see any reason the super-league couldn't be a 32 team league. With say 8 or 16 teams promoting and relegating each season.

In my mind, the only hard issues are logistical. Because sim times are currently tied to leagues instead of individual teams. I think this issue could be worked around, but it does seem like the biggest roadblock.

(Side note, i think this is a great topic worthy of it's own thread instead of being stuck in a tread about quitting)

I think making a change like this is a very short term idea. I don't think it is a good long term idea at all.

The goal is that each 1.1 league will be full of competitive human controlled teams. There is a maximum of what a team can reach in terms of roster construction. There is a plateau, teams will catch up. The current set up will enable that to continue happening.

This proposed change serves ONLY to consolidate top teams now. I still think the issue of blowouts will exist within the RZA world regardless.

This is a lot of work for short term satisfaction. I feel this change is saying that we have reached the max growth we will get here so lets consolidate. Instead the message should be to stay as is because we have plenty of growth left.

I think it is faulty to think that only older teams are competitive.

In Dragons 1.1 all of the teams that have 1 or no losses there are several that started in season 1 through several in season 4. We also have teams who started in season 1 and have losing records. Newer teams are catching up.
