I don't understand my kicker and the kicking calulation.

I analysed the stats of the same kicker in season 1 (low strength and kicking), season 6 and 7 (Kicker: strength 42, Kicking 31, EXP: 3,5)

Source: http://www7.pic-upload.de/10.02.13/wpdromxbubd.jpg

In the range up to 35 yards the was allways good.
In the ranges 36-40 and 46-50 his sucess decreased from season 1 to 7.
The success 51+ was in all season better than expected.

(The sample size from this season is small and you can ignore them if you want)

So what influence the kickers performance?
Has the opponent an influence (-> better opponent, worse success)?
Can the type of game influence the kicker?
Is the random factor too high compared to the skill factor?
Should I buy a kicker for 75 mio$?

It may help to include the number of attempts from all ranges per season. If he only had 2 attempts from 46-50 in season 6 for example, then the 50% isn't all that bad since he would only have one miss. If your team has gotten better perhaps your kicker is getting fewer attempts from long range so when he misses one kick, it looks like a poor %. Is that possible?

would any changes to the game engine effect the kicking success rate?

Of course do engine changes change the outcome of each situation...a higher passing success might lead to lesser Field goal attempts, as example.

Odd comparing season one to season 6. Kickers seem to be all over the place as far as accuracy sometimes. Mine can make 4-4 in one game and then go 0-3 the next. I can only assume the kicking skill needs to get over 40 for kickers to start getting consistently good. Mine has a kicking skill of 31.8 and strength of 37.6 and he is 20-30 on the season and 46-89 career. Haven't looked at him per season yet.

It is a relation of kicking skills (kicking and....) and the distance to be made.

To say anything about the stats you need to include the yardages here

When I think about kicking than I think a kicker need Strength to have the distance and need kicking to put he ball between the bars.

I think the calulation should be with two parameters: Distance (Strength) and Accuracy (Kicking). It should be not possible to compensate the distance with accuracy or accuracy with only strength. There should be distances, where you need a minimum strength. Lets say a kicker need 40+ strength to make a field goal of more than 50 yards.

Perhaps a big project for the future would be an u p d a t e for the total special team calulation (Kicking, Puntin, Returns) . Special teams play here a minor role at RZA, but became a more and more important part in the NFL.

Kicking and....strength!

At least I haven't seen any news about including vision and intelligence in the calculations from this season on. But we'll see that too one day.

The other seriously important thing right now is experience. But I doubt there's a kicker with more than 3 stars, judging how slow exp is increasing and how few plays a kicker has per game...
