NFL Team Punting Statistics - 2012

Looks like the average put is in the 40-45 yard range. About half are return (the other half are fair caught ergo no return) for an average return of 8-12 yards. This results in a net of 38-43 yards or so.

Yes Punting needs to be adjusted, don't think anyone including Pete can disagree with that.

Yah, gonna have to chime in...the punters should be kicking much further. I'm wondering if my back-up defensive lineman could kick better than that, lol

Yeah...my average punt is 33.5 yards. My average return is 11.5 yards (assume the same for my opponents). Makes my net about 22 yards. Maybe I should be going for it more often....

I do fg kick for max 45 yards and this season with only 61,4% success (10% lower than average of all time for kicker)

So in all other long situtation i punt and then it goes often for Touchback, because punter just punt straight every time

With punter punt even longer, i would only produce more touchbacks and so harm my field position overall

We not need "longer" punts first, we need intelligent punts!

So i say: no, no longer punts as long punter not become more intelligent to try the punt near goalline!

And since we talk about punter: first correct the stat recording for punter, because touchbacks are not recorded for them!

I agree wholeheartedly.

Longer punts: yes!
More intelligent punters: yes!

I hate when I punt the ball which should be kicked toward the sideline trying to pin my opponent deep but instead goes for a touchback.

Hmm...in fact, an OL has a higher punt rating than my punter. Hehe, I'm going to experiment in a scrimmage game, lol

That's pretty funny...I bought my current punter for only $25,000 and his punts are 5-6 yards better then my previous punter. Not saying that is alot, but that's possibly 5-6 yard further your opponent has to go for a field goal or touchdown depending on the punt return.

Also need to separate stats for PR and KR

At the moment the KR averages are utterly meaningless even without the 25 yard cap.
