I don't know if there are any other Bengals fans on the site, but here's a thread anyway! Not too much news so far in free agency, but that's normal for this franchise.

Lost so far are Pat Sims, Manny Lawson, Bruce Gradkowski, and Josh Brown. Josh Brown was expected after we signed Nugent, and Sims was just another backup DT (we have roughly a billion).

The only non-specialteams players signed so far are Robert Geathers and Cedric Peerman. Everyone who says the Bengals are desperate to get a speed complement to BJGE forgets Peerman averaged 5 yd/a last season, not counting 2 fake punts for 40+ yards each (6.3 including those).

This is a tough team to predict going forward, I can see reasons for success and struggles. Anyone else have thoughts?

not a fan of the Bengals but i think that they'll win the AFC North this season seeing as they seem to be in a good place right now and because Baltimore and Pittsburgh look like they will both be substantially weaker next season!

I hope you're right! But both teams are never really counted out, especially in division games. AFC North division games are always good, hard games, even the Browns tend to play very well in them.

Maybe this is the year Geno Atkins gets the recognition he deserves. IMHO, he is the second best defensive player in the league, with JJ Watt only beating him out because he swats passes like noone I've ever seen.

I have to laugh at my bengals we have only 1 linebacker under contract that is a true starter.
The Bengals have five linebackers under contract for 2013 — Vontaze Burfict, Brandon Joiner, Emmanuel Lamur, Aaron Maybin, J.K. Schaffer and Dontay Moch.

There is still a chance unrestricted free agents Thomas Howard and Rey Maualuga could be re-signed.

And I don't want Rey back as he can't play the pass at all.
And Howard might have few alright seasons left in him. But the Bengals need to find some real linebacker as that is now the weak point of the D even if they have to through Tayor mays back a SS I want to see some effort to fill that void. As I thing with our luck A 1st round LB for us would turn in to bust

Not a Bengals fan, but I like the changes made to the team in the last few years. I really like the Andy Dalton and AJ Green connection for the future, unfortunately for us Ravens fans!

Well it's official: Rey Maualuga is still a Bengal. Surely this NEXT year is when he finally breaks out as a fantastic LB Here's hoping he just ends up sort of in Manny Lawsons job. Only playing 35% or so of snaps and on running downs.

from what it sounds like it seems that the Bengals are going to swap him and Vontaze Burfict around

Yeah thats kinda what I mean. Burfict starting inside, Howard (hopefully) starting at outside all the time, and Maualuga on the other side in base packages and such, or giving injury depth. Bengals spend so much time in nickel though, with 3 CBs and only 2 LBs, that he shouldn't be in pass coverage much.

So a couple big news items on the Bengals front. First of all... James Harrison is suiting up in stripes. Honestly, I'm not really sure what to think of this, I like Dansby better as a player. Regardless, I know Harrison hates the Steelers right now for cutting him, so those could be fun games to watch Big Ben run around between him and Geno.

Secondly, official schedules are out! The Bengals are unfortunate in that this year they play the NFC North and are in the AFC North, which were pretty much the undisputed top divs in football until the NFCW came on strong last year. Still, before the draft I will be very very bold and predict the Bengals to go 11-5, winning the AFC North. However, about half of the games (Miami, Chicago, Indy, Minn, plus Balt and Pitt) that I won't be surprised to go either way. My predictions:

Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 8, at Chicago (W)
Week 2: Monday, Sept. 16, Pittsburgh (W)
Week 3: Sunday, Sept. 22, Green Bay (L)
Week 4: Sunday, Sept. 29, at Cleveland (W)
Week 5: Sunday, Oct. 6, New England (L)
Week 6: Sunday, Oct. 13, at Buffalo (W)
Week 7: Sunday, Oct. 20, at Detroit (W)
Week 8: Sunday, Oct. 27, NY Jets (W)
Week 9: Thursday, Oct. 31, at Miami (L)
Week 10: Sunday, Nov. 10, at Baltimore (L)
Week 11: Sunday, Nov. 17, Cleveland (W)
Week 12: BYE
Week 13: Sunday, Dec. 1, at San Diego (W)
Week 14: Sunday, Dec. 8, Indianapolis (W)
Week 15: Sunday, Dec. 15, at Pittsburgh (L)
Week 16: Sunday, Dec. 22, Minnesota (W)
Week 17: Sunday, Dec. 29, Baltimore (W)
