I picked up an YA player a season ago, who had been developed to BLO 18 and FOO 15. I think the previous owner planned to develop him towards OL, but sold him off, because STR capped at only 37 (or so I assume).

I decided to keep the player and developed his SPE, and his SPE is coming on quite well. He'll cap at 45+.

I consider learning him at FB or TE, since BLO is obviously required for both positions.

Although FOO is certainly not a primary skill in neither position, would anyone consider FOO to be more important for FB or for TE?

Well...the way RBs with 10ish blocking skill can play FB successfully (with OOPP no less) I doubt even blocking is any relevant to have.

Did you mean OPP?

I often wondered about this because FB & TE draftees don't have much footwork. Also, blocks are reported somewhat differently for FBs and TEs or rather...there are only successful blocks and no blocks (never missed blocks).

Realistically though, a TE blocking is not much different that a Offensive Tackle.

A Fullback blocking you might argue is a somewhat different mechanic as he's either a lead blocker on a running play (not in RZA currently) or he's picking up a pass rusher on a passing player. In either case its very similar, but probably requires move overall positioning and movement by the fullback than if he was just a OLineman blocking.

Thank you both.

I've read a bit (but not too much) into the discussion that says RB do pretty well playing FB, but I had hoped this would apply more to the running side of this position, not so much the blocking.

In my team, among the 2 FB that I usually play, there is quite a significant higher number of blocks from the FB with higher VIS and INT (the other relevant skills being the same).

However, perhaps it is possible, as Steve suggested, that FB and TE blocking draws from a different set of skills. That's at least what I wondered about. Given that Steve may be right, my player would probably be better suited as a future TE?

As the manual says: "Footwork is the skill to determine how stable a guy is on his feet. Tackles and Blocks at the LOS are well supported by footwork. Tackles besides the ones on the LOS might benefit from Footwork, too".
I can't see how footwork may be useful for FBs and TEs...

Footwork is like a "bonus" to the blocking/tackling skill in my mind. A player with 25 blocking and 10 footwork will not be as consistent as one with 25 and 15.

TE's and FB's block and need footwork

I personally think footwork is a key skillset in EVERY position to do with American Football - you name me a position that doesnt require good footwork in one aspect or another.

This is true. I asked Pete about footwork for blitzers (LB, SF) some time ago, and he said including footwork in blocking calculations for those situations was going to happen eventually.

It would make sense for anyone who participates in blocking, or can be blocked by someone else, should have good footwork.
