Im enjoying this fully - its nice to debate something with someone who has a spine and has the conviction of their beliefs and hasnt (yet) resorted to personal abuse or name calling!

I fully accept many points you have said. Put Morris in a line and ask people to s e l e c t their choices and maybe he wouldnt get selected in top 5. Maybe my 'knowledge' of his play being a Redskins fan does shine thru compared to someone who doesnt watch/listen to/view every one of their games.

But you ask any pundit or fan what would be the one stat you would look for to gauge the success of a RBs season and it would be rushing yards. Thats their holy grail. Of course they have other facets and aspects of their game they need to be adequate/good/great at - but you dont judge a WR by the blocks he makes or a QB for the scrambles he makes - these are added extras or play specific dimensions.

The best all purpose back in the game is Jamaal Charles. The best running back in the game is Adrian Peterson. I see and know the difference.

Im not sure on what you base Ray Rice's inclusion though as a current top anything. He has stunk the place out for the last 2 seasons.

I won't resort to name calling and I'm glad we're both enjoying this

Hum... I disagree with that, I think many people would look at scrimmage yards for RBs because it's such a huge part of the game today. We hear all day that it's a passing league now so you have to take the passing portion of a RB's game into consideration!

For QBs the one stat they'd look at would be W I reckon which imo is simply wrong. Rivers for example is an excellent QB imo, much better than Palmer but Palmer got more Ws this year because the Cards D was effing brilliant.

You might accuse me of playing with semantics but I'd say Charles is the best RB and Peterson is the best at running the football. Small but significant difference to me.

What was it, 4th and 24? That play against SD last year? You probably know what I mean. Plus he had 1600+ yards from scrimmage and 10 TDs last year, plus 394yds and 2 TDs in the PO while winning the big one, hardly "stunking the place".
So he had 4 years averaging over 100yds per game and then one bad year (granted, it's the most recent one) so I'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt and ranking him high based on the previous great 4 seasons.

Edit: Sorry, I tried to use multiple quotes but it apparently didn't work. Hope you find your way through this messy post

Ok - ill let you put this together - i genuinely dont know the results either.

Could you - for the last 2 regular seasons combined (note regular - and bearing in mind Washington made the playoffs last season thats not being unfair) - list the top 10 Running Backs by yards from scrimmage with totals. If Morris is outside of this list, would you kindly just list his stats underneath in comparison to those who do make the top 10.

getting off-topic here but i like ray rice a lot. catches a lot of balls, can run straight ahead, lots of experience, durable, can pick up the blitz, break tackles. complete back. i think he was at least somewhat a victim of Flacco's "Shaub-like" decline, in terms of his own decline in production.

i am a ravens fan, always been always will be

but i see it a little different. i feel the lack of production from the rushing game puts Flacco in a worse position then he would like. I know many people see it different.

Still i am a great fan of Lacey

so you think it was O-line issues with the ravens offense? I didn't get to see them play much in 2013.

that's my opinion given the few games i saw. and of course the missing of Boldin is not good for a QB.

Lewis and Reed no longer maintaining defensive pressure hurt Baltimore too in my opinion.

So a lot of problems to mend in the offseason. but mind i am european so maybe i am totally wrong

yes i remember they lost some defensive guys so maybe a less effective defense exposed an offense that was closer to average than anyone thought, but enough about the ravens. sorry i went off topic here. back to the redskins. so what's the new coach/coordinators line-up in WAS? Jay Gruden? who's the OC and DC?

He ranks 6th (RB's only) in 2012 (1790 yards), and 13th in 2013 (1353 yards) all from scrimmage.

But you can check for yourself here.

He may make the top 10, but he really lacks the ability to be a valid scat back. Either that or the Redskins gameplan never was to take advantage of him that way. The few 'Skins game I saw this season they usualy used the other back on screen plays and blocking assignments, don't rememner his name. So perhaps they detect that Morris has poor hands, or/and bad blocking capacity.

That beeing said, I don't know if he makes the top 10 in the two seasons combined. If he does it's probably boarderline. Rushing yards alone he competes with the best. If he isn't top5 he is getting there quickly rushing wise. Catching passes ain't his thing, so far...

2012 Receiving Yards: 77
2013 Receiving Yards: 78

There's hope, he gained one more yard this season. Lol.

Overall he actualy had a worst season in 2013 than in 2012, but that may very well not be is fault. Don't know the 'Skins enough to have a opinion, I had him in one Fantasy and he did good, not great but good. Would pick him again.

Okay I've compiled a couple of rankings (yes, I have too much time on my hands at work)

Total Yards from scrimmage 2012 & 2013 combined, regular season only.
1 - Adrian Peterson 3751
2 - Jamaal Charles 3725
3 - Matt Forte 3367
4 - LeSean McCoy 3359
5 - Marshawn Lynch 3359
6 - Alfred Morris 3043
7 - Chris Johnson 2897
8 - C.J. Spiller 2821
9 - Reggie Bush 2790
10 - Frank Gore 2717
11 - Ray Rice 2602
12 - Doug Martin 2448
13 - Ryan Mathews 2403
14 - Demarco Murray 2385
15 - Arian Foster 2366
16 - Knowshon Moreno 2278
17 - Trent Richardson 2196
18 - Steven Ridley 2149
19 - DeAngelo Williams 2100
20 - Steven Jackson 2100
21 - Joique Bell 2096
22 - BenJarvus Green-Ellis 1976
23 - Pierre Thomas 1889
24 - Danny Woodhead 1781

Now I produced a second ranking considering yards per game for a couple of reasons. It allows this year's rookie to be judged fairly (Lacy, Bernard, Bell and Stacy) and it is better to judge pure ability without taking durability into consideration. To avoid giving too much credit to a player who's always injured though I've only taken into considerations guys with over 1,700 yards (exception made for the rookies).

1 - Adrian Peterson - 3751 - 125.0
2 - Jamaal Charles - 3725 - 120.2
3 - LeSean McCoy - 3359 - 120.0
4 - Doug Martin - 2448 - 111.3
5 - Matt Forte - 3367 - 108.6
6 - Marshawn Lynch - 3359 - 105.0
7 - Demarco Murray - 2385 - 99.4
8 - Arian Foster - 2366 - 98.6
9 - Le'Veon Bell - 1259 - 96.8
10 - Eddie Lacy - 1435 - 95.7
11 - Alfred Morris - 3043 - 95.1
12 - Knowshon Moreno - 2278 - 94.9
13 - Reggie Bush - 2790 - 93.0
14 - C.J. Spiller - 2821 - 91.0
15 - Chris Johnson - 2897 - 90.5
16 - Ryan Mathews - 2403 - 85.8
17 - Frank Gore - 2717 - 84.9
18 - Ray Rice - 2602 - 83.9
19 - Zac Stacy - 1114 - 79.6
20 - Giovani Bernard - 1209 - 75.6
21 - Steven Jackson - 2100 - 75.0
22 - Steven Ridley - 2149 - 71.6
23 - Trent Richardson - 2196 - 70.8
24 - DeAngelo Williams - 2100 - 67.7
25 - Joique Bell - 2096 - 65.5
26 - BenJarvus Green-Ellis - 1976 - 63.7
27 - Darren Sproles - 1735 - 62.0
28 - Pierre Thomas - 1889 - 60.9
29 - Danny Woodhead - 1781 - 55.7

Hopefully this is readable on the forum...
