VERY nice work.

2 current Saints on the second list, and 2 former.

And more importantly, McCoy in the top 5 and Morris far out of it

In your first list - the one you have been jumping about - and the reason i said combined for the last 2 years - he is 6th. Behind those i pretty much listed as ahead or with him.

Where is Ray Rice in comparison to Morris?

Way out of it? I dont think so - and that first list only again proves my point - even including ALL yardage gained.

Case rested. Next!

it shows morris' durability. in other words others gain more yards per game but they miss games. morris misses no games (at least so far in his career). durability is good. morris is definitely not a top 5 back though. i'm not high on top-5 backs anyway though- you pay through the nose to have them and they always get injured. most of those teams with the great backs didn't even make the playoffs. i'm a fan of RB by committee. 2 or 3 good backs is better than one great one imo.

Seems to me that in today's NFL - "running back" is is too general a term.

Much easier to keep the discussion on track if you break it into 3-down back, 2-down back and 3rd down back.

He's 11th in yards per game though... He's only been in the league for 2 seasons so let's not start calling him durable yet. If he doesn't miss a game in 6/7 years then yeah he'll be durable but playing 32 games is hardly something so extraordinary that it would make him a top 5 back when he's out of the top 10 in yards per game.

After 6 years in the league (and only 4 starting) Ray Rice has missed a total of 4 games and is averaging slightly over 100 yards per game. When Morris approaches these stats you can say that he's better than Rice.

Dude, remember i used the word 'current' and have done since the start.

Pointing to stats from years ago is useless. Facts are that over the last two seasons Morris has done much better than Rice - by whatever method you wanna use. What Rice did 4 years ago is immaterial when you are talking about the here and now.

You are jumping from stat to stat to decry Morris. Facts are there are enough stats to point to that say he is top 5 - or 6 if we are being really pedantic - and while he isnt Superman and can do everything as the best ever, to me he is right up there. If you dont agree - thats fine n dandy. But when your own stat line produced that you initially used against Morris (yards gained from LOS over last 2 years) back it up, its hard to argue it. IMO.

Total Yards from scrimmage 2012 & 2013 combined, regular season only.
1 - Adrian Peterson 3751
2 - Jamaal Charles 3725
3 - Matt Forte 3367
4 - LeSean McCoy 3359
5 - Marshawn Lynch 3359
6 - Alfred Morris 3043

Game Over. Insert coin for credit.

So 2 years is okay but not 3 or 4? Meaning that if next year Morris has a bad season because of injury or due to the Redskins not giving him the ball as often as they did under Shanahan you'll say that he's not as good anymore as a player?

I'm fine with that but I'd disagree, circumstances influence a player's stats but it doesn't necessarily mean that all of a sudden a player becomes better or worse. Rice is a prime example of that, he had a bad year for various reasons but one bad year is not enough to demote him and claim that he's not a top 10 RB anymore. Now if Rice has a terrible year next year I'd be willing to reconsider but I don't think one fluke year is enough to do that in the NFL. If one year was enough to judge players I'd claim that Foles is the best QB in the league since he posted the highest QB rating and won 7 of his last 8 games

Also, if you think that one year is enough to demote Rice then why is it not enough to demote Morris.

2013 yards from scrimmage.
1. McCoy
2. Charles
3. Forte
4. Moreno
5. Lynch
6. Bush
7. Murray
8. Mathews
9. Peterson
10. Lacy
11. C. Johnson
12. Morris

You only want to consider 2 years because it happens to be the only way for Morris to approach the top 5, by any other measure he's clearly outside of it.
