Does the ST ratings have any effect on the effectiveness of Kickers and Punters?

I was talking to someone who come up with this theory so I looked into it a little and I am starting to think that there is some fact in it.

My kicker tonight missed several field goals from under 30 yards and my ST rating was far inferior than my opponents. When looking at other games where my kicker has been poor it has been a similar situation. In games where the special teams ratings have been close my kicker has been better.

I know ratings are just a guide based on skills etc and on offense and defense tactics take priority but there isn't much tactical planning about kicking a ball between some posts so ratings could be a factor ie pressure on the kicker

ratings only give you some idea of how close the game might be

I know that my question was mainly aimed at the quality of the STs. What players are included in those ratings just the K, P and those placed at KR and G?

Could it be possible that a side with a great ST unit is actually putting pressure on the kicker therefore making it harder for him to kick a successful field goal?

K, P and KR/G ... but only if you have dedicated G/KR .... if not, the ST rating is just your K & P.
They also have to actually make a play to be included .... e.g. if your K is much better than the P, and you have zero Punts that match, your ST rating will be higher than in a game where both the K & P contributed.

Teams with great K/P and no dedicated G/KR will have a slightly higher rating than a similar team with dedicated G/KR .... that's just the maths 'averaging down' the performances

Only in your imagination
Seriously though ... might be something for the future, I think Admin has a 'Special Teams revamp' on his mental to-do list.
