Buffalo you lucky sod!

My 2 are decent outsiders, if I was having a punt today I'd consider a few £ e/w on Across the Bay.

Imperial Commander is a great horse, and Big Fella Thanks (in my opinion) is one of the best outsiders, he has completed this course numerous times.

Race starts 4.15pm, UK time (GMT+1)

Current betting on the race

Looking like Seabass is getting plenty of money, but a lady jockey has never won the National, and there are 4-5 horses on very similar odds.

MTS is the expert, I'd like to hear his views

No expert at all - but i do love my NH racing and have done nicely on the National in the past!

My main tip is Chicago Grey - he is so well in at the weights and was going superbly well last year before a horse fell in front of him and he was brought down. Even lower in the handicap but solely prepped for this race and a top jockey on board - with some luck in running he must go close and has already won races 4m+ so stamina not in question.

Next up is Imperial Commander - solely because he is the best horse in the field. The ground coming up good is a big leveller and as we saw with Neptune Collonges last year, you only need to be winning when you reach the line and horses high in the handicap can win Nationals. My only reservation about him is trends - Gold Cup winners have a desperate record in the National - but i think he has a tremendous chance of bucking this trend today.

I like Rare Bob - again, very well in at the weights and has a jockey on board who has become the 'big race' jockey for this season. If he finds a rhythm, as hes known to put a few short ones in, he could run a big race.

Lastly im having an e/w saver on Roberto Goldback - mainly because of the all conquering Nicky Henderson/Barry Geraghty connection. Normally finds one or two too good for him, but Henderson cant go wrong at the moment and although he doesnt have a great record in the race, this may just be his season - as last year was for Paul Nicholls. Geraghty will need to produce him late but decisively - if its a battle with a few involved going into the elbow, it will be a hard luck story. But if he gets there with a few lengths lead, 33/1 could be very tasty indeed.

Should be a cracking race, and i really do urge anyone who can to watch it - starts 16:15 BST - and i wish everyone all the best.

Just been and put the family bets on, most of them picked using pins.

I always try to look beyond the 1st 5or 6 in the betting for horses capable of producing on the big day over these fences. No luck for a couple of years though - and I have to go back to Bindaree in 2002 for the last time I had the winner!!! My wife however got Mon Mome a couple of years back by pin-sticking.

Each way punts on Always Waining and Across the Bay for me.

My son put his pocket money on Imperial Commander because he's a Star Wars fanatic
