Besides I think the 4wrsg is going to somehow get nerfed at some point sooner than later.

We want realism for sure, but dude, we want to win. I see it as my job to make my team as successful as possible, which means to win.

Which is fair enough - but doesnt doing that then moaning about it make it quite hypocritical?

As said - i mean no disrespect - i just find it interesting seeing how other Leagues have panned out in comparison to ours, where we've just enjoyed one of the most open and exciting seasons to date - and had our 7th different Bowl winner in 7 seasons.

But it did occur to me that if you choose a set of mundane singular plays 'to win' rather than use a more realistic playbook then thats more the fault of the Coach than it is of the game?

In reality coaches call the plays they think will win. This usually means mixing it up, so the other team isn't able to adjust to what you are doing.

If the game dictates that you use the same formations/plays all the time to have the best chance to win,...then it is not realistic,......and if realism is the goal, changes to the engine should be made so that being able to win means being realistic as far as play calling is concerned.

You cant expect the players to use realistic play calling if that doesn't give them the best chance to win. So yes, if you are more likely to win with a singular set of plays than a more realistic playbook,...it is the fault of the game....if realism is the goal.

So youre saying these teams cant win unless they play a bastardized set of play calls?

Funny...other teams seem to manage just fine....

You're wrong: other teams (as my team, partially) don't like to play a monothematic PB, so set up a more various and realistic PB. This does not mean that his PBs are more effective.
I think that with a only-4WR PB my win vs. SF would have been much larger and quite: a large number of tests says that a simple 4WR PB (*) is enough to win if you are at the same level of your opponent, because we have no efficient defensive formations to counter it. On this issue we are almost in the same conditions in wich we were at season two (or three?), with Big-I formation and run, run, run.

(*) 1st down: prefer pass
2nd down: prefer run
3rd down: prefer pass

Of course we can win and succeed with other playbooks. It is just the 4wrsg is the MOST effective right now. It only makes sense to go with the most effective strategy. I've only used this playbook for less than half a season actually.

Single back spread is enough: now, with a very good RB, you have not even the problem of the "out of position" malus.
Great work, Pete!
