Never seen this before....almost put it in the Bug thread!

9:43 1 and 10 to go on opp 11, Arnulfo Meredith (OC) snaps the ball to Dominic Pennell (QB), Dominic Pennell (QB) selected Jamal Fall (WR/R) as target, Mohammed Hana (DE/L) breaks through the line, this outer right pass goes to the receiver, who catches the ball, tackled by Lenny Kaminski (SS/L), forward progress: 11 yards (Big I formation vs. 5-2) more

9:35 touchdown more

9:35 Harrison Delagarza (K) kicks the ball for the PAT, PAT missed

Most Kickers should do PATs in "automatic mode". How many should a 50/40/30/20/10 kicking kicker miss in your opinion?

~1.5% of the time it should be a miss. if it's to be as close to real life as possible.

The intelligence/skill of the Center for the snap and the skill of the holder too- - things sometimes go wrong even for pros (roughly 1.5% of the time )

Can a kick or punt ever be blocked in this engine? Should be very rare too, but occur occasionally with the right defensive skills.

It's really really really rare for a NFL kicker to miss PAT do to him missing the goal posts. When they miss is 99.9% of the time because the PAT was blocked.

This page contains info on PAT's missed in the 2006/07/08 seasons. Also has totals for previous seasons.

Out of 1,235 PATs in the 2012 NFL Regular Season - 4 were missed (all blocked) - nowhere near even 1%

Field Goal attempts 1-19 yards - 100% across the NFL - 16 attempts.

Its *nice* to know it can happen - the rarity of it happening seems about right!

EDIT : On re-review, 3 out of the 4 PATs missed were blocked - the Jacksonville Jaguars missed one wide.

one season not a very good stick to measure it by. on something that happens that rare, it could be .5% one season it could be 3% another season. a few times in history a team has had <90% on PATs! very very rare though.

The stats from Cananico's post work out to much less than 1.5% as well - you cant prove your point by going back 20/30 years when the game is hugely different now than it was then - and kickers are hugely better now than then - as well improvement in pitches and equipment.

Ive seen one missed PAT having started in S4 - and its come from a team rated in the low 30s - that ratio seems about right and unless there becomes special ratings for Special Teams, including PAT prevention, then id be disappointed if they suddenly started becoming more regular - as they are very rare - much like Tied games - and should stay so.

But as said - nice to know they are part of the game.

If anybody thinks the rate of missed PATs ought to be increased then they should make a Suggestion in the Suggestions Forum.

p.s :- I've got my finger already hovering over the 'one star' rating .... can't wait to left click on it
