Poll: Do we need more guidance through the offseason in terms of financial management?, Poll closed, votes: 379

Yes, the number of struggling teams having no money to survive the offseason is a clear sign for that

No, after all it is a management game, and it is the managers fault not to plan including the offseason/postseason

I don't know

Just finished my first season, I joined the day after the draft and therefore missed all the picks in season 7 - oh well. Anyway, I just ploughed my surplus into expanding my stadium ready for the new season, hired my PR consultant, in addition to hiring coaches at the back-end of season 7 in readiness for the harder challenge of tier 2 teams. I put several million aside to carry me over, and made sure I was playing plenty of friendlies at the end of the regular season.

It's a management game - blow all your money on 1 or 2 players you fancy at the end of the season, and it's going to hurt. I think people should be allowed to learn their own lessons, although a short article in the manual on off-season financial management is a good idea. However, I suspect a lot of players will still not read it, because they won't see it as interesting.

I'm the perfect example of going, "spending crazy" and nearly lost my team, lol. Thanks to very helpful players with advice and allowing me to play them when they could play someone else, giving me a chance for a financial boost. Yes, defo lesson learned as previously pointed out. The board clearly warns me against doing things finance-wise, even now . Bottom line, RZA issues warnings about financial choices very clearly; the player is responsible for if their choice is a good or bad one, not the game.

My thoughts exactly.

So, what am I doing wrong? I'm training players, buying a few studs and duds along the way and still sitting on over $300 mil. I did get relegated this season, and since so many seem to be borderline bankrupt, there's obviously more I could spend my money on that would increase my wins.

I think there's enough warnings already. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him manage his team reasonably.

I think this applies more towards new owners. It didn't click how much money I was going to lose in the offseason until the first week after the regular season was over. Still, all it takes is a little bit of diligence and research to figure out how to get through it. I probably did everything wrong as a new owner: hired a coach (and hired then fired a few ACs), built facilities, built the Fan Shop, and spent a lot of time on the TM and I still have survived the off-season in the black thanks to Friendlies. If you were going to do something, maybe something small like a message that says, your only source of income for the next X weeks will be through Friendlies, so schedule them!
